Default Castor oil on nails?

Anyone else do this? I've always been able to grow my nails fairly long without too much trouble. But then one would break, one would tear, others would get ragged on the ends, etc. For awhile now though I've been massaging my nails nightly with straight castor oil and my nails are ALMOST the longest they've ever been, and not one of them has peeled or broken or frayed at the ends at all! Just thought I'd pass this along, in case anyone hasn't tried it and has problems with their nails.

Wonderly, I noticed the same thing when I was doing OCM as my facial cleansing method. My nails were so much better and clearer looking. I don't do OCM anymore other than just once in a while so my nails aren't getting that treat. I'm getting a lot more breakage and splitting lately. Maybe I should be using castor oil just on my nails.

I don't know about castor oil, but back when I regularly slathered my hair with EVOO, I ended up with super long nails...the longest I had ever gotten them, actually; and longer than practical, that's for sure. I would think other oils would also work.

Actually, I have a strengthening/conditioning nail oil and the ingredients? Three oils (sweet almond, jojoba, and rice bran), fragrance, and a preservative.

Thanks, wonderly! Castor oil is simple enough, and I have some! My nails are very prone to splitting on the sides and catching on my hair--which I don't like. I'm gonna give castor oil a try.

Now, why didn't I think of that? I need to pick up some castor oil (probably today, if I feel like trekking to the drugstore in the hot sun with my kids) since I want to try OCM again, so I'll try it on my nails too.

Interesting, never thought of castor oil. I never use mine, just sits in the cabinet, now I have a use for it. I remember moonchaser saying in her sweetsuccess oil thread that her nails were great from the oils.

I should try that. I recently shut my thumb in the car door and I have a big split horizontally across the nail. And now it's growing soooooo slowly and I'm worried about the new nail growth being thin and weak.

I know that when I'm (or anyone) is low on minerals, the nails are one of the first ways to know. They get dry, brittle, and sometimes peel.
The castor oil is a great idea, though! I have plenty of that stuff!
