Default How to unstick a stuck nail polish lid

I have a beautiful OPI polish that I cannot open. Since I paid an arm and a leg for it, I'd like to get the darn thing open so I can use it! Does anyone know how I can get it open? It's been glued shut ever since I bought it.

I've had succes turning my bottles up on their lids and put a drop of nail polish remover at the place where the lid meets the bottle.. It has worked every time for me.. I might have to wait a minute or two though.. HTH

I generally just run hot water on them, then tap the top of the lid on the counter and it opens.

As justy said, run cap under hot water... and then maybe wrap rubberband(s) around the cap to help with gripping as you twist.

Just remember to clean off the neck of the bottle and the inside of the cap with nail polish remover once you get it open. Otherwise it'll just seal itself shut again when you're done with it and you'll have to start all over. Can't tell you how many times I do that....

What a chore that was. I did the nailpolish remover routine not once, not twice, but three times, in addition to the hot water trick. Then I grabbed my rubber grippy thingamabobs, one on the bottle and one on the lid, and nearly sprained both wrists.

It did come off, and there was a LOT of polish inside the lid. I think that the bottle wasn't sealed right at some point between manufacture and getting it home, so during my travels with it, the polish leaked into the threads and really glued it shut. It is good in a way though, because the polish doesn't need any thinner despite sitting in my cupboard for at least 3 years It is cleaned up now though, so I can use my pretty polish.

Ooh, the NP remover is a good idea. I'll have to remember that.

My solution is to make my brother do it, since he thinks he can do it as he can like, bench press a truck. I always giggle when he tries, fails, and blames me for supergluing the top to the bottle. He's figured out that if you bang the top on a counter, and then pry up the top's edges,
it works pretty well.

Yup, I've banged mine on the counter before, out of frustration , only to find that it helped open it up!
