I need to stop forgetting to do this. I have the pot, the salt, and a nice sinus infection that has been around all winter. I remember to actually clean out once a month.

Coming from a household where the only daily rituals that were stressed were daily cleaning (body, face and teeth), not skin care or anything. (Make up? Lotion? foot and hand care, other than nail cutting? what are those?) I'm having a terrible time getting these things done. I jsut can't stop doign the things I'm working on or reading to take care of skin and such. Yes, even hair goes neglected. I just don't have the motivator there, I guess.

Veronica, you could cut back on the salt, too. But you don't want to use straight water, either! It hurts, too!

Yeah, I found that out the hard way! The baking soda seems to help.

The instructions that came with mine say to use a heaping 1/4 tsp of fine-ground salt, or a slightly rounded 1/2 tsp coarse-ground (it mentions kosher in example.) I'm using sea salt, 1/2 tsp level, and it's been quite comfortable except for the one time I can only guess I might have managed to leave a teeny bit undissolved -- then, it just stung the edge of my nose a little bit.

I haven't tried the baking soda yet.

Hi Natlia, you may be using too much salt. If you don't think that is the case, then are you adding a little bit of baking soda to the mix. It helps buffer the salt so it isn't so drying. Otherwise, I don't have any idea what to add. Maybe someone else knows.

Thank you Teacherbear . Right now i still have about 50 of those packets that came with the bottle (couldnt keep the pot clean to my liking so i have a pressure bottle) so i just use as much as they say. It already has baking soda in it so would adding more still be benefical? Thanks again !

I love love love my Neti-pot. I have super bad allergies and attract sinus infections and strep like it's my job.
However, I have had the solution get stuck up in my sinus when I am too clogged but all I have to do is lift my head and it flows out, as gross as that sounds.
I have those packets so I know the proportions are correct.
It works wonders, especially when I have a ragin sinus infection, I only have to use it for a few days and it flushes it right out.
I would definately recommend it.
