I heard or read somewhere that facial moisturizers with sunscreen can cause dry skin. Is this true? Does anyone know why this might occur?

I don't know if I have ever heard that before. I use on a daily basis an Aveeno facial mositurizer with SPF 15 and I have never had dry skin before,

I don't know about that. I experienced the opposite..I have a bit oily skin and a lot of moisturizers with SPF caused me to break out and have a oily complexion..

The title of this thread threw me, since I'm the exact same way. Shame, really. I got a full-size sample of Almay's Step 3 in the purple bottle. Guess I'll be giving it to Mum.

Ditto! I always associate sunscreen with extra oiliness.

I use Lubriderm SPF15 on my face every morning, and have never had a problem with dryness or extra oiliness, other than the normal teenage stuff, that I get using it or not.

I use an oil of olay facial moisturizer. I *think* it's Complete Defense Daily UV Moisturizer SPF 30- Sensitive Skin.
With this one I don't have any problems with dryness or oilyness and it makes my skin feel really soft :soppy:
I've also used Lubriderm Skin Nourishing Lotion with Shea & Cocoa Butters (it was on sale..I had been looking for one with SPF something but the store didn't have any :boggle: (well..they had some *really* expensive ones =p)) which I use all over body, and used on face when I didn't have the Oil of Olay stuff. It was okay but I prefer the sunscreen part of oil of olay for my face, and the lubriderm made my face feel greasy/slimey because I could never get it to absorb with my face as I could with legs/feet/everywhere else. I don't have that problem with Oil of Olay =D

In my experience, if I use a sunscreen I am much oiler than not using one. I also get more breakouts with a heavier sunscreen. When I am at the beach or somewhere where I know I'll be getting a lot of sun, I just suck it up and use it heavily. For daily use I seem to have the best luck with Clinique City Block or just using BE mineral make up. FWIW I have very oily skin and it's been that way all my life. Maybe it's how my skin reacts to something in the sunblock. I'm no chemist so I have no idea what the ingredient or ingredients might be. It's very easy to push my skin from oiling that I can deal with daily or up to shiney slimey greaseball status. I guess I'm lucky in that oily skin is supposed to age slower than dry skin.

I use Cetaphil Daily Moisturizer SPF 15, and it's been perfect to me. Not too dry, not too oily. Guess it's a matter of finding the right mix of moisturizer and sunscreen. I know if I had to use a separate moisturizer and 'screen I'd be dripping glop from my face by the middle of first period. Although now that it's nearly summer, I won't have to worry about that.

I use this too ... with the same results. I have used Oil of Olay for many years.
