im not sure where to post this but im gonna pop if i dont tell someone
on the animal planet there was a program on during the superbowl called the puppy bowl.. its hours of puppy dogs playing on a miny football stadium. i recorded it.. i played it to show my dad the cuteness but was surprized to se my dog start growling and standing on his hind legs to try to see the tv better. he kept looking behind the tv to see where the puppys were.. there is very little sound on the program. every time that there is something other than puppies on the screen he loses interest. he tries to sniff the puppies through the tv screen. and no matter how many times i play the program he reacts the same way. and he will keep watching it for hours too... he will stand up on his hind legs so that his face is 8 inches away from the screen and whimper and just keep watching it...
has anyone else seen anything like this.. i brought a video of this to my video art class and everyone had a good laugh... he also reacted this way to a commertial during the superbowl that involved a dolmation training a horse rocky style.

One time I was watching a piece on PBS about the intuitive lives of cats or something like that. There was a story about a cat who found its way to its owners' new place it had never been to, a cat that predicted an earthquake, that kind of thing. The cats in question had a lot of screen time, and whenever the cats were on the screen my two kitties stared at the screen. When there were people on the screen they would start licking their paws or whetever a cat does when it's ignoring something. They would also start to do that if they noticed that I saw them watching, but that's a cat for you.

I have 2 Jack Russells. My girl dog is a big TV watcher. She watches just about anything, but she really likes the America's Funniest Video type shows where people video their dogs doing crazy stuff. She jumps up at the TV and barks. She will also bark and growl at animals on TV whenever they appear (commercial, TV show, etc.). The boy dog could care less about TV. Like eaglesflight's cats, he will make a show of ignoring whatever it is that Maggie is so wound up about.
We watched the Super Bowl this year, but flipped over to the Puppy Bowl during a commercial. Mag loved it and barked and growled at all the puppies.
She also enjoyed watching the dog show on Animal Planet a few days ago.
I had never seen a dog actually watch TV before we got Mag. It's quite funny. I can't explain it, or why one dog loves TV when the other doesn't care one way or the other. We just try to play along with it and enjoy TV with her.

It is funny how animals react or don't react to TV. My cat couldn't care less. My dog is not a TV watcher, either. But, when she was younger, she would have a very negative reaction to a woman who used to be a host on QVC. Every time that woman would come on, Sabryna would sit and watch the screen and growl. I don't know why she did it. She never reacted to any other host in that way. Just that one woman. Strange dog. :lafhard: :lafhard: :lafhard:

Xander isn't bothered by what goes on in the giant box that loud noises come out of, until he walks by and sees his relection. Then he will bark for hours. Even if there is a dog barking on the TV, he doesn't care-it has to be another dark haired chi that sounds like him, who copies his every move, and who is near his mommy! O NO! NOW HE'S ON MY MOMMY! GET OFF MY MOMMY INTRUDER! GRRRRRUFF!
Usually after 10 minutes of barking I take him for a walk where he forgets everything and we can return to the house in peace.

squiggyflop, that is so funny that your dog reacts that way. We watched part of the puppy bowl. It was very cute. Our dog never watches TV but all of her puppies use to.

We got my cat from a pet store in Boston, but he's very smart so one of my nicknames for him is "My Harvard Lawyer." Well several years ago, he'd be curled up, sound asleep on my bed as I watched Voyager and West Wing in my bedroom tv. Then Law and Order would come on. Immediately, that cat would wake up, stretch and settle down directly un front of the screen and watch the show.

i was watching breed all about it... jack was asleep, or so i thought... suddenly a white blur comes out of nowhere and lunges at the tv... he barks and growls and acts extra tough... as if to chase the boston terriors out of his living room... he also has started barking at the dogs on dogfood commertials. he doesnt react at all to cats... he gets really mad when the dogs on the tv run or jump or do anything aggresive. its getting to be more a nuesence than cute... expecially when he lunges at the tv almost knocking it over and tugging at my clothes with his teeth to get me to agnowledge the dogs. im afraid to watch the animal planet shows on dogs which used to be something i did often. is there a way to break the dog of this habit??
