Hi

Well, it's pretty much what it says in the title :grinhappy:
I wanted to start WO washing about a week ago... just as the LHC went down! :boggle: Just my luck  I don't suppose anyone has the article saved? Can anyone give me the lowdown? Pretty please?!

I've been CO washing for the last few months. I haven't washed with anything but water for a week now. I've been using a horn wide tooth comb to try and distribute the natural oils down my lengths (an, critically, AWAY from my scalp... terrified of looking like a seal in an oil spill...) but I desperately need some encouragement and pointers.

Thanks in advance.

I don't do WO exclusively, but I do use iti between washes when I need to. I use a BBB to help distribute the oils down my length. I believe some people use a apple cider vinegar rinse afterwords. Other than that I'm not much help. Hopefully some WOers will step in and give you advice.

make sure that you massage your scalp really good when you wash your hair... i think that a really soft boar bristle brush would distribute the oil well.
those are the only things that i remember from the LHC threads and journal entrys that have anything to do with WO washing

Thanks :grinhappy: I ordered a BBB online today, so it should turn up by the end of the week. That was about the only thing I remembered from the article! Ho hum.

My hair already looks so much healthier. I know it's only been a week but my hair doesn't look dirty at all. It's softer and sooooooooooooooo shiny. I'm a 2c/3a and my frizz has vanished :lafhard: I've been combing every night and it's really got the oils down the lengths. I'm looking forward to trying the BBB. Errrr.... yeah, I just love buying things to use on/in my hair! :innocent:

Heres what i do, ive been WO since july last year, or something like that anyway. Now am NW but still occasionally WO wash.

What i do, twice a day hang my head upside down, scritch with my fingernails (im pretty careful now to keep my nails in good condition for this), massage, and preen. To preen i kind of grab the oil from my scalp with my fingers and slide them down to the ends.

Brushing with a BBB is good, does distribute oils well, preening and combing does this as well if you find its causing alot of fuzz to brush, or just brush at night. Those are the things to do, so just combine what works for you, everyones different. You dont need to hang your head upside down, at one point i got too many tangles doing this so stopped.

You can do a wash with bicarb followed by diluted ACV to help ease the transition, but it will take longer to transition if you do.

Brown sugar scrubs are also good. Some people use tea rinses, herbal rinses that kind of thing during the transition. Aloe vera is also a mild cleanser.

You may need to lightly oil the ends to start with until the sebum reaches the ends.

When you wash, just massage the scalp gently under the water, you only need to wash the scalp. Some people find cold water better, others find it leaves their hair too greasy. Again, experiment, see what works with water temps.

If you have hard water it can be harder to do this, some people invest in a water filter, or you can just do a bicarb wash or vinegar rinse occasionally.

Good luck.

Thank you so much Kebbster :-) I need to WO wash today I think, so your reply was very well-timed! I didn't know about preening... That'll come in handy methinks ;-)
