View Full Version : What's your current conditioner of choice?

Just to get some more hair-related conversations rolling while LHC is down... what's your current conditioner of choice and why?
Anymore, I alternate between Elucence MB conditioner and Regis Olive Oil conditioner. Both are silicone free and have an amazing amount of slip! :soppy:

Hi Meezer! I found Elucence--on multiple trials--to be too heavy for my hair. I keep going back to Deva One Conditioner.

I love Giovanni 50/50 moisturizer. No cones but a lot of slip. It also doesn't have a strong scent which is nice if you get tired of scents quickly, like me. Gives me a lot of shine too. I always get compliments when I use it.

I never thought this former Pantene-junkie would say this, but my favorite "conditioner" of choice these days is vinegar (when following a CV bar shampoo). Virtually tangle-free and unbelievable shine that's truly akin to what I used to get with cones.

Still hooked on VO5 Sun Kissed Raspberry (old formula). I did try the Strawberry once, and I really liked it. I like Elucence MBC as well, but I think it is also too heavy for my hair to use all the time.

Nivea...but I might go back to my old conditioner.
The Nivea one is somehow oily and lets my hair look stringy.
I guess it would be more something for people with a different rougher hair texture..
My old conditioner has cones though -_- hm..I will just need to look around more.

I just started CO'ing a few weeks ago and so far I'm loving VO5 Strawberries and Cream! The scent is delicious and my hair seems to be responding well to it. I'm trying to stick with one product at a time long enough to figure out how my hair reacts, but I'm impatient to try Suave Milk and Honey next!

I recently tried the Elucence MBC and love it. I wouldn't use it every wash since I am a product rotator. I'm on a trip away from home right now and I brought Elucence, Regis OO, Artec Purehair Chamomile and Aloe, Aveda Rosemary Mint, NG Herbal, NG Aloe. I've bought some more WR C's since I found a nice stock of the old stuff and went to Trader Joe's and bought every kind of TJ conditioner they had. It could easily be a year before I can get back to a TJ's. I tend to like heavy very moisturizing conditioners. I like lots of slip and am not anti cone but am aware of cone build up. I'd just as soon avoid as much build up as possible because that means less clarifying and less shampoo usage. I have a small list of the conditioners that I will buy again, a huge list of conditioners that I've tried and liked but might or might not purchase again and a list of things I won't go back to again. AO and MM are at the top of that list.

I love Suave conditioners. Right now I am trying VO5 Split Ends because I haven't had my ends trimmed in 5 months and I would like to try and hold off as long as possible. This VO5 reminds me a lot of Suave (except for the smell). It doesn't smell as nice but it is runny just like Suave and really cheap.

I have been using VO5 SKR but sometimes silky champaigne kiss and tangerine tickle. I am trying also to use just one at a time to see what they do but it's hard! I also like NG jojoba and use it every once in a while but it is a little heavy though coneless.

L'Oreal Preference Care Supreme. It's the conditioner that comes in the hair coloring kits. My sister colors her hair regularly and had quite a few tubes left over so she gave them to me. Ever since then it's been in my conditioning rotation along with L'Oreal Mega Moisture. A few months ago I ran out of Mega Moisture so I've been using nothing but Care Supreme. Still having great results!
Why is it my favorite? It conditions and moisturizes well without building up. I used to clarify my hair once a week but now I probably clarify once every few months or so and that's usually because I need to remove other product from my hair - leave ins and serums.

I alternate a lot.
I switch up between Giovanni 50/50 and SAS, Suave Tropical Coconut and Milk and Honey, VO5 Extra Body and SKR (silver cap) and Regis Olive Oil.
Cone-wise I love ApHOGEE's Reconstructor, Redken's Butter Treat and Suave's Professional Humectant. These are mostly water soluable or light cones that can be easily removed.
I also love CB's SIAS as a treatment for my ends and wheat germ oil. I mostly CWC but some days I can actually skip my final condish. My shampoo is uber gentle.

Right now, I am using various flavours of VO5 for CO washing. I like to switch it up and enjoy different scents. For a finishing conditioner I am using Nature's Gate Aloe Conditioner. It is nice. Decent slip, (not quite hot-knife-through-butter-fabulous) but good. It has a nice, fresh, light herbal scent, a nice break from Avalon Organics heavy lavender e/o presence.
I am also using my home-made leave in and lightly oiling. My hair is feeling very soft and moisturized. :whoohoo:

I only have two conditioners right now, Avalon Organics Tea Tree Treatment and Down Under Naturals Daily Conditioner. My favorite is Giovanni 50/50 moisturizer for regular conditioning after shampooing. And soft as silk for CO's.
"Cone" is just short for silicone. And they're usually in conditioners but I've seen them in shampoo's and definitely in styling products, ie. serums, curl products, smoothing balms. They help to fill in holes, seal split ends, make hair appear healthier and shinier-atleast for awhile.
It really depends on personal preference whether you like them or not. They are only bad if they are bad for your hair. Some can't live without them. I have concluded that my hair does better without them. I've gone back and forth many times but everytime I do my hair gets stringy and grubby feeling. It also pulls out my curl, I assume because it is filling in areas of the hair shaft. They may work best for people with straight or coarse hair. It really is trial and error. But if you like using them, just make sure to clarify once in awhile. It will keep it healthy in the long run. Hope that answers your question?

I have pretty coarse hair, thanks in part no doubt, to my hypothyroidism, which DOES make hair coarser than usual. My hair really needs the benefit of silicone and I am glad to use it.
Does anyone here use Hask Placenta Hair Polisher? I use this very, very sparingly, only once in awhile for extra shine, polish or smoothing which helps on a "bad hair day" usually.

I am currently using Biolage (from Matrix) Hyrating Balm. I like it because it is thick and concentrated, so I dilute it a lot to use on my scalp for COing and I use it full-strength (or lightly diluted) for my ends. A little goes a long way, so it makes the price tag a little more managable!

It's not been trashed with well-intentioned experiments with baking soda and lemon juice, it hasn't been touched by peroxide and it's been henna'd a few times. Also, I moved across town and I think the water is different. Or at least the pipes are. There's a gross thought.

Home Health Chamovera-herb scent, nice
Favorite heavy:
Biolage Conditioning Balm, I have to remember to stock up on it in August.
It goes on sale for half price just before school starts.

For the moment I live in a box, and the only conditioner I had today was Elvital Volyme something from L'oreal. Cone free and works OK. My precious conditioner collection is at the moment on the other side of the conuntry.

I am rotating: VO5 Vanilla Mint Tea & VO5 Moisture Milks Passion Fruit Smoothie. I don't have many conditioners at the moment. I just ran out out the Chamomile Tea.
VO5 conditioners have been working for a year. Until I get the new product bug I'll be sticking with them.

My HG conditioner is Trader Joe's Refresh, but I always a few on hand at all times. I also use Oyin's Honey Hemp, Trader Joe's Essential, Healthy Sexy Hair Pumpkin Masque, Manor Hall Deep Conditioner (though the last one is my favorite leave-in.)

Nexxus Therappe. I tried Oyin's shampoo, the head-to-toe honey wash, and I liked it for my body, but it was not meant for my hair LOL it was globby and hard to rinse out. the conditioner, however, its amazing, i really like it.

I am making my own conditioner (both a rinse out and a leave-in). The the only ingredient in the rinse out is Dipalmitoylethyldimonium Chloride. For the leave-in, I add a humectant and a little Dimethicone for slip and protection from chlorine.

I have an old bottle of Exact Herbal Gardens - a knock off of Herbal Essence, but along with HE they're changing their formula and I don't like it as well. I tried another Exact brand, and I think I like it ^^.

My most favorite is Burts Bees Green Tea - smells so good!!
Jason Thin to Thick Conditioner
Neutrogena Triple Moisture Daily Deep Conditioner
Those are the 3 I am using right now for CO.
I have a question for those of you that only wash hair a couple times each week:
Do you exercise?
I go to the gym every morning and to not wash my hair just seems gross to me - I can't do it. But I want to take it easy on my hair. What do you think?

I CO to clean my hair....about every 7 days. Use WREB. My conditioner of choice for a second, richer conditioner is Matrix Biolage or Giovanni 50:50.
But, 5 days ago I CO'd and finished up with Kiss My Face "Big Body" volumizing conditioner. It was the first time I ever used this conditioner and I am flabbergasted at how much slip it has given my hair when both wet and after it dried. Tangles are non existant and it was so slippy yesterday, I couldn't keep a Fig-8 or Infinity in to save my life. :)

Hey, to those who use V05, is the Oasis line good or what? I seem to remember someone saying you should use ones other than that. Why is that and where can I find other V05's. I looked and only found the Oasis line.

Aubrey Organics GPB Conditioner. I have used it exclusively for over twenty years - except for a couple unfortunate years when I used inferior health food store brands - and my hair absolutely loves the stuff! I use it along with the AO J.A.Y. Shampoo and sometimes the Egyptian Henna Shampoo and Rinse. It makes my hair so soft, I can't keep my hands off my hair. :lafhard:

Right now, Arbonne self-adjusting conditioner OR the old Giovanni 50/50 stuff.
I'm still upset that they are in the process of reformulating the 50/50. Why can't people leave well enough alone? Seriously.

i always end up buying stuff i dont want when im waiting for my meds... lol:happy: last time i came home with a gallon of a balsom and protein conditioner because the gallon jug was only $3.50..... and i knew that my hair hates to have all that protein... i kept trying to use it too... i mixed it with all kinds of stuff and my hair still turned to straw every time the stuff touched my hair.
i still have alot left... i dont know what im going to do with it.

ladiosoRosa,
I love, love, love Kiss My Face Big Body.
I have been using it for years in between trying
other things but I always come back to it.
It is my true shampoo & conditioner love.
The smell is heavenly. So lavender-y.
Anyhow, lately i've been adding Giovanni Direct Leave In
after washing & conditioning to combat winter dryness & flyaways.
And my hair is even better if that's possible!
Thanks to those of you on here who suggested it.
Lots of great ingredients in it also.

ladiosoRosa,
I love, love, love Kiss My Face Big Body.
(snip)
I love what it did for my cranky ends, and my crown wispies. But, it's a little too heavy for crown hair because I don't like the look by DD4. I'll use it only on lower half of my length and just very diluted on crown. This is the conditioner I speak of; don't use shampoo.

Should I love this or hate it??? Looks like they had several herbal oils in the old formula and now have herbal 'extracts'. Wonder how that will affect the slip. I think I still have a bottle of the old stuff in my stash so it will be many months before I have to try this new stuff.
What's your take on it, OhioLisa?
