That's neat. How do reputations work? Sorry if it's explained somewhere and I didn't read it yet... lol.

There's currently a glitch with the rep system, but I'm working to get it remedied.

Here's an explaination of User Reputations. (http://chatter.thebeautybottle.com/faq.php?faq=vb_board_usage#faq_user_reputation_faq )

I'm not sure I want a reputation of any kind. LOL. It just sounds so formidable. On the other hand I sure wish I could make some comments on the reputations of a select few members of another board. Ahem. :innocent:

Let's just consider it a way to keep each other in line. ;)

It's actually a brilliant idea, a little reminder to keep us accountable for what we say. I can certainly use that reminder from time to time. :)

I agree. Sometimes the LHC can get a little rowdy. :snide: I like this feature, a lot!

jessie58

Sometimes I think those who could benefit from a little constructive criticism are the ones that get their knickers in a twist upon receiving it and then they become even more unreasonable, so maybe it's a good thing we don't have this feature on LHC. :lafhard:

Not to mention that those same "supersensitive' people may be likely to abuse the reputation feature by being spiteful towards others. :pissed:

Of course all those of us over here at the Beauty Bottle are so nice, we have nothing but the best reputations. LOL.:innocent:

I'm lost with this -- I see the boxes, but are there explanations, too? I guess I'm (misguidedly?) looking for categories, like Steph has assigned for numbers of posts.

It's a great idea, though, to be able to recognize those who contribute a lot through the quality of their posts. (For me, that's not necessarily length or volume. I've learned the most through many short, specific-to-my-needs answers.)

Thanks, I saw that -- but I was naively looking for listings like Guru, or Helper, or Chatterbox.

Hmm... Chatterbox. That might be a reputation some of us here well deserve. Um, I think I'll stop chattering and log out now and get back to that project I've been avoiding...

I think the reputations could be alot of fun, too! I can't contribute much knowledge yet, but if you can get a rep for contributing bs, I should be a star. :geek:

sorry to say, but I still don't understand.

snowbear

sorry to say, but I still don't understand. Basically, it's a rating of the usefulness of your posts. The difference between a "me too!" and a thoughtful piece of discourse. If you feel that someone has posted something of great value, then you can add to their reputation.

HTH!

I don't get it. How do you contribute to someone's reputation??? I mean, literally, how? What to click? Which page?

Checking out the Member list, I can see everyone's names, Reps included, but I don't understand where you'd go to add to someone's reputation.

LeaM07

On the left-hand side of each post, under each member's avatar and other information (join date and such), there are three buttons: a square (on/offline), an X, and an R (report post). Click the X to add to the member's reputation.

I assume it's self-explanatory from there, but I haven't tried it yet myself. :)

(ETA: The first button will be a triangle instead of a square if the member is currently online.)

Lea is correct but if you read about in the FAQ listed on the grey line above you will find the guidelines as to why you would give reputation points. You have to follow particular rules when giving a reputation. They must be given legitimately, meaning that it's not likely that you would give a brand new member that has only been here for a day or two because they have likely not had any time to contribute to the community. Nor would you give your best buddy points just because she is your best buddy. Also they can't be used to be deliberately rude and mean to somebody that you do not like.

For instance I gave Carolyn points because she is always so helpful and very knowledgeable about makeup and she is very friendly when she answers posts.

I don't see myself giving any negative reputation to anybody because so far people here are all positive.

How can I see someone's "reputation"

And Hi Tessa :flower: how are you? When is your DH heading back? Hope you are coping better :hugs:

jessie58
February 1st, 2008, 11:26 AM
Hi Redbark, I'm good thanks. 18 more days until DH is home.

Only the user can view their own reputation points which is at the bottom of their own control panel. So if you go to User CP you can view your own. You will find a little little section below your subscriptions which says latest reputation received. If you have been given any rep points you will click on the arrow below and read for what they were given. However if you have none, they will not appear there.

If you read the FAQ you'll see all the requirements for receiving points. You have to be a registered member, have so many posts, have been here for a certain length of time, etc. Reputation points are not the same as rep power which you see below each person's avatar info. You have to have tons of points to get the power points. After I will have been here in May, for one whole year, then I will receive one more rep power point. So only three rep power points within a year. However you may have many reputation points but you have to read the FAQ cause I forget how it goes.

ETA: also you cannot see who gave you the points, they are anonymous.

Here is Lea`s explanation from her above post. Under each person`s avatar you will find 3 buttons. Click on the X if you want to leave feedback for a reputation. It is self explanatory once you click on it.

Perhaps newer members may not be able to access the buttons until they hit a certain number of replies.

Hello Lexy, I miss journaling and reading too. I`m fine, thank you you for asking. So good to see you here too.

DH is finally having his first moment of relaxation of his whole trip. He`s on the way to the beach. He just texted me to say he was just going out. He is in Banana Beach in South Africa. His family (aunts and uncles) rented a condo for he and his uncle. Very nice of them.

I miss everybody`s journals but I sure as heck hope that Morticia is keeping up hers daily so we don`t miss a thing.

Hi Carolyn; tis no one but little (I wish!) old me! I tried to join under biggeorge, but I couldn't get verified, so I tried a couple of other names until I finally figured it out.

Being from south Louisiana this is a name I have used in e-mails for years; I also have used cajunbiggeorge and some other variations!

Perv, huh? Years ago I might have taken serious offense, but at my age I guess any reputation is better than none, right? http://www.cosgan.de/images/midi/froehlich/k035.gif

And as difficult as it may be, I will refrain from responding to the blondness comment!

I'm glad no offense taken, Big George! :grinhappy: I was laughing at myself for the way I read your name. Koala Kim used to be Koala Boop but some of us thought her name was Koala Poop. I'm so glad she changed it! And I'm glad to see you here no matter what your name might be :lafhard:

Tessa, made George blush! That is a riot, but I DO admit that I enjoy George's sense of humour, of which I have been a victim FAR too many times over at the LHC!:lafhard:

But I DO agree with you, I am glad to have found this little "home away from home", and still have the chance to gab with all of you.

Big always make us laugh doesn't he?

Delilah, I hope it's all good now, it's kind of confusing isn't it?

Lexy, DH is surfing today and was yesterday. On Monday he is going deep sea fishing. Finally some fun. They have a whole week at the beach before they go back to the uncle's house again. He sounds so much better today.

I don't believe that feature is working in the members list as it is the same for everyone.

Only members can see their own points that are listed under their subscriptions in their control panel.

You can view each person's reputation power under their avatar. You have to accumulate a certain number of reputation points to move up in power points.
