Just wondering if people can tell me about Etsy, if you have shopped through it or/and if you have a store please :)

I have shopped through Etsy several times. I have a gorgeous winged hair fork, some beautiful yarn, and some even more beautiful stitch markers from various sellers. I love it. I don't have a shop, though. Maybe I will eventually!

I had an etsy shop for a while, but closed it when I opened up a website instead.
I've been shopping on etsy a little bit of late - there's some great stuff to be found!

Thanks for the opinions :) I'm thinking I should buy something from the site to see what it's like as a customer. I'm just a bit nervous about setting up an Etsy account to sell my creations on

I have bought stuff on Etsy (I'm actually eagerly anticipating my first purchase arriving!) and I really like the site. It seems like there are a lot of really unique things for sale. I have a ton of fun looking around at other people's random creations!

I love all the pottery ware on Etsy, hand thrown stuff is gorgeous and the colors are beautiful. I would love a whole set of dishes and tea mugs in grey blue shades. I look at all the craft fairs here but never find quite the right ones. Unfortunately, I don't see them on Etsy either.

If you find an artist whose work you like, you may be able to work out a custom order. Then they'd post it on etsy for you to buy when it is ready. I did that with a hairstick from Chickie Girl Creations :)

I bought a really lovely butterfly wing pendant from etsy. It was a custom order with a green wing on one side and a blue one on the other. The woman lives near a butterfly sanctuary and collects the wings from them (don't worry, she doesn't pull the wings off butterflies to make necklaces or anything). I love it, but it freaks some people out.

I have made a couple Etsy purchases. been satisfied. Both were custom work, and that is SO easy with that system. It comes up as" custom for truepeacenik" and says not to buy if you are not the person.
I have a favorites list as well.
I'll eventually get my paintings up.

Another Etsy lover here! :) Seriously, I can spend hours just "monitor shopping" and not buying anything. The best thing to me, is that when you buy from an Etsy seller, you're supporting a small business and/or an artisan. Plus the whole "I have something that is a one of a kind" thing is nice too :) I've had great experiences and shop there a couple times a month for various things.

Not sure about the protocol here vs LHC, but I have an etsy site, and though I've only sold one thing, it is extremely easy to use. (In my opinion obviously)
It's better than E-bay because there is no bidding, so if you want something, you buy it. Also some handmade items that don't do well on E-bay do better on Etsy. I've found it to be easy to use and the people on it seem quite nice. I would venture to guess that there are way less scammers and punks on Etsy.
I hope since I'm not linking my store that it is ok to say I have one.

I totally agree, it's so much easier to use. What I like is that it is pretty much all handmade stuff, so your things don't get lost in a sea of mass produced things.

I have only stumbled upon etsy about a month ago - and I love it!
Sellers are so much nicer than on ebay, and as has been mentioned before: it's great to get one-of-a-kind stuff and support small businesses, too!
Oh, and on the LHC links to etsy stores in the siggy were allowed, as far as I remember ;)

I have an Etsy store (link in my sig), and I love it! It is cheaper and easier to deal with than Ebay. It is a very different and interesting community. I have bought on Etsy, both yarn and jewelry and have been very pleased with my purchases. I highly recommend Etsy for someone with handmade items to sell.

How well does copper work for those? Will it tarnish/green?
Presto
February 19th, 2008, 05:50 PM
Copper would be extremely pliable at smaller gauges. The ear hook would bend easily. Yes, it will tarnish, it's real copper, you'll get a nice green stain on your skin. I do have some Rustoleum clear gloss I was going to try out. I'm not sure it would work on the earwire in copper, I imagine the copper flexing a lot and cracking the coating.
All that said, I do have copper in 12 gauge, but I didn't think there would be much of a demand for stuff that flimsy. I use it for modeling the shapes I make in silver.
My main worry with copper Fake Its would be the ear wire part where I would file it down to be a 16 gauge. Flimsy.
I asked my hubby, for comparison, what you might find around the house in copper wire so that you could feel for yourself how flexible it is. He says there is some in your electrical outlet, but doesn't recommend opening one up to check it out...:lafhard: He says, "Go to a hardware store and check it out for yourself, they will have all the gauges."
Meh... not as helpful as I'd hoped.
Talk to me on Etsy and I'm sure we can work something out.
I have a hard time realizing where the line of self promoting lies... I'd be happy to take this post down if this is too much.
Time to go browse some stores for myself!

Well, since we already "know you" it's not really an issue. We are just concerned about people wanting to join down the road who we are not familiar with. Those people would need a good rating so we know we're hooking buyers up with good sellers. :D
