There was one at LHC, and it was pretty useful, so I figured I'd start one here.
How do you make your asprin masks, and how long do you leave it on? How long do you do it...etc.

I use about three asprin, and some Castor Oil in mine, and leave it one for at least 25 minutes (depending on how much time I have).

I just use one aspirin, dissolve it in a few drops of water and add honey. I like the honey base, because not only does it make a great mask on its own, it doesn't drip and it keeps the aspirin from flaking off!

I make mine with about 3 aspirin and LOTD aloe gel. I leave it on until it gets dry enough to start flaking off. Love it!

What does the asprin mask do for your skin?

It's a great exfoliant, and good for acne. Some people with rosacea have reported improvement in their skin's condition too, with less redness.

Thanks Eiyela! I'll definately have to try it. How often are you supposed to use one?

I use it maybe once a week when I remember to. But that's very individual. I know some people do a very short mask (5 minutes or so) every day or every other day, and they love it. I prefer doing a longer one once a week instead. I do notice that when I go really long, for an hour, that my skin is just a little bit tender afterwards, but it's a very mild mask.

Awesome, thanks for that info Eiyela! :flower:

I just did my first one yesterday. I used 6 aspirin dissolved into a little bit of hot water.

The castor oil idea is intriguing, sort of like a combination between the mask and the OCM. I think I'll try that next time, because I was looking for something to thicken up the mixture. Last night I sneezed while wearing the mask and thought it started snowing.

I've never managed to get the aspirin to dissolve--possibly because all I have is coated aspirin--so I grind it up with my mortar and pestle. Next time I need to try adding a little honey, I bet that will smell nice.

Oh, that reminds me... first batch I made up the other day I tried using orange coated aspirin, thinking that it would just dissolve and it would be no big deal. Well, it did dissolve, but I was stirring it up with my finger, and it dyed my finger bright orange. So I did a patch test and that dyed orange too. Not even like fake tan orange, like oompa loompa orange. My hand has been washed many times since, and its still got a nice carroty tint to it. So be advised, if your going to use coated aspirin, do a patch test first.

Do they really make orange coated asprin? Wow...that'd be interesting the next morning.
Why is your skin orange? Because I put asprin on it....

I don't think I've ever seen aspirin with a colored coating! Mine is just coated white. I don't think you'd be able to tell the difference between the white coating and my skin :lafhard:

I love these, but always have a devil of a time getting them to disolve. Haven't done one in a couple of years...I wonder if I have any aspirin in the cabinet...

I couldn't get it to desove completely so I poured some into a coffee grinder. I then put the powder in a little container and keep it in the bathroom. I just pour some powder in my palm, add some aloe gel and apply. It works great. I've yet to see uncoated aspirin but some *look* like they are uncoated but are still coated.

I've never been able to get the stuff to stay on my face. :gurn: The recipe I tried had asprin, water and honey, but but said to heat the asprin and water to dissolve faster. Then add the honey. The problem was, the honey melted in the hot water, and the stuff ran down my face. I think I'm going to try it with aloe - that might work better.

My aloe always melts from the aspirin! It dissolves the jelly making schtuffs. I always melt my aspirin in a quarter teaspoon of water, then add it to the honey. That way it's already dissolved when it gets in there and doesn't drip.

And, as a matter of fact, it also works in 30 degrees Celsius! It's pretty hot in the sun, and I just did a 30 min mask. Thanks for reminding me, ladies.:whoohoo:

I just did this today. 3 aspirin crushed with a trickle of water and a squirt of honey. Even the very little water I used was too much as it became really watery when I added the honey :sweatdrop: But I was still able to apply it and the excess water evaporated within a few minutes. I left the mask on for 15mins then moistened my fingers and lightly exfoliated with it. I used a little bit of cleanser to wash it off just to be sure it was all removed. My skin was very soft after that :innocent: I moisturized with a drop of coconut oil, then all done!

I use the uncoated aspirin, but also crush it. Then I mix it with some aloe with melts a bit. It's still somewhat gritty, but I use that to exfoliate when I'm done.

I used one of these last night. I usually mix 2 pills with some LOTD aloe gel and 2 drops of TTO.

I had an annoying headless zit on my right cheek that was there for weeks, but when I woke up today I realized the mask managed to bring it to a head! Squee! :whoohoo:

I use 4 uncoated asprin, put them in the palm of my hand then add some aloe vera gel to disolve the asprin working the aloe in with the asprin than add more aloe vera gel to make a paste. The first time I tried the asprin mask I used honey and as soon as it hit may face it melted all over so the next time I used aloe vera gel and it works fine.

It is hard to find uncoated asprin, I bought the Safeway brand that says uncoated but I find there is still a very thin coating on them but they do disolve right away.

I found a tiny mortar & pestle at the dollar section of Target that I use to crush my aspirin. When I tried this with honey and another time with just water, it seemed too runny and when it dried, it flaked off all over (and made me sneeze). I have had good luck mixing my crushed aspirin with plain yogurt. Actually, this thread reminded me it's been a while since I've done a mask, so I have one on right now!

I use about 5 uncoated aspirin, and dot each one with warm water. In a few moments they will be soft enough to mash up. Then I add a little bit more water and some honey to make a paste. The last one I did, I left it on for about 30 minutes. :whoohoo: I need to remember to do them more regularly! I also use it to exfoliate when washing it off.

I use BC Powders, but I've got to be careful to buy the right one, one kind has aspirin in it, the other one has acetaminophen. It's great because they are already crushed up LOL. I always sneeze when wearing this mask too.

Lol. I tried this for the first time tonight, but added too much water and ended up with asprin liquid, not asprin mush.

Funnily enough, they were the last two asperin in the house. All we had left after that were paracetamol, which I figured wouldn't exactly work the same on skin!

I use 3-5 "lightly coated aspirin" from Big Lots since I can't find the uncoated kind. I crush them with a mortar and pestle and mix with enough honey to make the mixture runny and spread on clean dry skin.

When the honey smell makes me really hungry and I can't help tasting the mask (honey or no honey, crushed aspirin is ick  ) I rinse it off with warm water and use a Biore strip on my nose to remove blackheads. It works very well.

I'm with severina--it's been ages since I've done an aspirin mask. Thanks for reminding me.

I just tried this with about 5 aspirin and water. I think I need honey because I'm guessing it'd make it easier to apply/have it stick.

It made my skin really soft..and I swear it made some blackheads on my nose more visible :purplex:

I didn't leave it on very long so I'll try again in a few days and leave it on longer..and hopefully have honey :grinhappy:

Planning to do it tonight..

Newbie Question Alert! :)

I'm assuming that I'm supposed to use the 'Bayer' type aspirins, the aweful-tasting white circular ones?

We always keep Advil in the house, so I'd need to run out and buy them specially for this, but I want to make sure I'm buying the right stuff!

Is it the aspirin itself that does the wonderous things to your skin? Do the honey or aloe vera gel help, or are they more for ease of spreading/sticking?

This sounds great, will have to try this soon!!

Dulci

Dana, yes it is the salicylic acid found in asprin that does the trick. If you have to buy some, look for the uncoated ones, they are usually the cheapest. The honey or aloe are soothing, but I think they are used mostly to keep the aspirin from flaking off too quickly.

Ahh...yes. Aspirin is different from Advil (which is ibuprofen) and Tylenol (acetaminophen)

Gotta make sure you're using the right stuff =p

Maybe ask a neighbor to borrow some aspirin to try it with?

I use the honey to keep it from flaking off too quickly, but I also use it to stop me from sneezing! The aspirin and just water made me sneeze A LOT -- the honey stops this.

I use aspirin only on pimples. I have normally clear skin and find an aspirin mask on my whole face just a bit much. So when I get a pimple, I just dot a little bit of dissolved aspirin on there and it helps to heal/shrink it.

I want to kiss whoever discovered this little trick

Thanks for the reminder, I'll do this after my shower, while my hair is up in a micro towel (ends left free and drippy, of course). I have an old bottle of REAL aspirin and will use 3-4 of them crushed with my mortar and pestle, mixed with some fresh honey (which is thicker than the stuff you buy at the store) and continue the pampering of justy, even though it is Father's day.:grim:

does panadol work?

liz
July 19th, 2006, 08:45 PM
can u use panadol for these masks??

eiyela
July 20th, 2006, 04:35 AM
No. Panadol contains paracetamol, not acetylsalicylic acid. It wouldn't have the same effect on skin, unfortunately.

I started about a month ago dissolving 1 asprin in aloe vera. I've now switched to dissolving the asprin in a couple of drops of water and adding honey instead. I found the aloe combination irritated my skin, the honey is much more soothing. I leave it on for about half an hour twice a week. I have noticed that my skin has fewer red areas than before.

Keenkitty *hugs* sorry that you had such a bad reaction. How did you make the mask? I was really surprised that the aloe made my skin react as I use it in other things with no problem. Maybe your mask was too strong (ie too many asprin) or you just need something like honey in the mix to take the edge off?
