I'm now up to the maxiumum dosage of Biotin and my nails have improved so much in the last two months. They are harder and grow so fast, I have to file them every two to three days to keep them at the shorter length I like. No cracking, spliting or flaking. I also think the Biotin is helping my hair, but I can see the difference in my fingernails more readily.:lafhard:

Glad the biotin is working for you, Justy. I had some, which I kept in a bag with my other vitamins so I could take them at work and the bag is MIA. Don't know what happened to it. The black hole probably swallowed it. I'm gonna have to order more, as well as get some new vitamins. I'm starting to feel draggy.

Justy, that's great! :insert dancing nanner here: :lafhard:

How much biotin are you taking? I'm not sure what the maximum is supposed to be. I just started taking it again last week and better nails would be a wonderful thing.

My biotin pills are 5 mgs which I think is 5000 mcgs. I'm so not into science so I could be wrong :purplex: I've taken biotin for a while. I can't exactly remember when I started but it was several years ago. It improved my nail growth within a month or two. I didn't think it was helping with hair growth but I ran out of biotin a few months ago and didn't repurchase it for some dumb reason. My hair growth really slowed down. I had been getting 1/2" per month and I went down to 1/4-3/8" per month without it. I started taking it again and was back up to 1/2" again right away. So I guess it works for me. Isn't it a water soluable vitamin so we excrete it if our body doesn't use it?

I've been reading that a loss in Biotin (when you stopped) can cause skin rashes . Could that possibly be why you are having these episodes?

I'm getting ready to up my dosage to 4000 mcgs as soon as I need a new bottle.

I'm getting ready to up my dosage to 4000 mcgs as soon as I need a new bottle.I think my rash started with my watch band scratching my arm. I don't know why the area around it got so itchy. It's totally weird. The timeline as best I can remember is sometime last fall or winter I ran out of Biotin and neglected to replace it. Silly on my part since Biotin is relatively inexpensive. I started taking it again sometime in the early spring. I think my rash started about 6-7 weeks ago so that would be about mid May. I'm sure I had been taking the biotin again for a couple of months by mid May. The rash is fairly localized and hasn't spread. When I've had a reaction to a bug bite, I had a rash and red welts all over and I do mean ALL OVER :ooh: So I supposed it certainly could be possible. I think my expensive ointment is starting to work. I'm giving it until the end of this coming week and then I'll call the dermatologist. I'm just wierd :lafhard:

I've tried so many times to do the Biotini supplements, but I get breakout rashes everytime I do. I don't know why this happens to me. I even tried to slowly increase my dose, but nope. The rash still come on, it resembles acne on the face and I really dislike that more than any benefits I can get from Biotin.

Does anyone else experience that also?

No rashes for me and I've been on 5000 mcgs a day for about 4 months now.

I just started taking the new One a Day Energizer vitamin with green tea, so far so good. Plus it's the prettiest shade of green!

I've found something else that I like about biotin. Both my sister and I have decided that it seems to take some of the fat off. I'm naturally very thin, but I still have some extra around my stomach, and I think my stomach seems to be flatter and less "flabby". Anyone else notice this?

I know my sister has read that other people have had the same results as well.

That's wonderful

I take between 2000mcg - 3000mcg and it's good for me. I use the 1000mcg pills.

I had been out of biotin for almost 2 months and I am a little excited to see if I gain any extra growth this Spring. Even if it didn't do anything for my hair I'd take it for my nails.

I take 3000mcgs and It has kept my cystic acne at bay. I have put away my prescription cream. That is the biggest plus for me. It also helps my nails, I haven't noticed it do a thing for my hair.

Thought I would update here. I no longer take Biotin. For the life of me I can't remember why, LOL! I will say that my hair continues to grow (it's pretty dang long now) and my nails are nice and hard and I still have to file on them twice a week.

I've cut back on my mega doses. I was doing 5mg per day. I still have a lot of the 5mg capsules so I am now taking one 2-3 times a week. If I think my hair is growing slower I may go back to a daily dose.
