I'm hoping to find a new facial moisturizer that doesn't cost an arm and a leg and is good for combination skin that is prone to acne and blackheads. Any recommendations? My face doesn't like petrolatum or mineral oil.

My skin liked oil of olay. But I wasn't into ingredients when I was using it, so I don't know if it has petrolium.

I've tried Olay. It was okay, but I wasn't head over heels over it.

That's actually why I don't use it any more. But the one I use costs $28 so it doesn't fit your criteria.

I've done pretty well with aloe gel and then a drop or two of jojoba oil over the aloe. I'm sure you have those ingredients already. ;) This doesn't seem to make me break out, but I don't use it consistently.

I alternate between the following depending on my mood:

Virgin coconut oil and rose oil blend (my skin adores this).
My own serum (again, my skin adores this, but it's a bit heavy and better for nighttime use).
Lancome Regenerie

My skin breaks out so quickly and I have to be very careful about what I put on my skin, but these are my tried and true moisturizers. I recall really liking Kiehl's Sodium PCA (I think it was called) moisturizer, as well, but it's been a while. It's oil free, IIRC, which I normally stay away from due to the "oil rebound effect," but this was nice. It had a wonderful texture - sort of a cream gel and it worked well with a drop of tea tree oil just before my period.

Oooh! One more! If you like the smell of orange or tangerine, go for Origins Night-a-Mins! Fantastic stuff! I think I'll be ordering some today. It's been a long time since I've used it - too long...

I've been using Orange Blossom Water as a toner, then the Nature's Gate lotion for dry skin, as a facial moisturizer. It's light and has no mineral oil or petroleum. And no silicone.:lafhard: It works just as good as Olay Quench, and I use less.

Maybe I'll get lucky and they will have it at The Cosmetic Store when I hit the outlet mall next week.

I found my holy grail moisturizer I have been searching for years.
Its a fluid that moisturizes well and at the same time is lightweight..feels like water.
Sadly its a german brand but maybe something similar would work for you?

http://www.veda-versand.de/product_info.php?cPath=203_299&products_id=2436

Ingridients:
Wasser, Glycerin, Bio-Alkohol*, Sojaöl*, Jojobaöl*, pfl. Squalan, Xanthan, Arganöl*, Aminosäurederivat, Lotusblütenextrakt, Weisser Teeextrakt, Mischung ätherischer Öle, Vitamin E, Natriumlaktat, Milchsäure, äth. Ölinhaltsstoffe
* aus biologischem Anbau

The german would be translated like that..:
Water, Glycerin, Bio Alcohol, Soy oil, Yoyoba oil, African Argan oil, Amino acid extract, Lotus Flower extract, White Tea extract, Milk acid extract

Sorry I cant help any more. I know how hard the hunt for a good moisturizer is.

I'm a jojoba oil girl all the way. Applied to a damp face, it makes my skin feel perfect every time. Maybe with a bit of aloe gel if it's hot outside.

I have skin that's prone to blackheads, it gets oily if I wash too much, but it easily gets dried out, too. How's that for combination?:gurn:

Oh, and Steph is right about the rose oil. I got a bottle (just because she kept raving, darn it), and I found I can actually use it on my face. I've been putting a drop or two in my oil bottle for the past couple of weeks. It's too soon to tell if it's really improving my skin, but no bad reactions so far, and I love the scent. And I'm positive it hasn't actually caused a pimple yet.:whoohoo:

Desert Essence Daily Essential Moisturizer is very light and does a good job. I bought it a year ago based on all the positive reviews I read. Here's a link:

I had been using Philosophy's Hope in a Jar, I adore it and so does my skin but it is just too expensive so I decided to give it up. I am hunting for a day moisturiser that is very lightweight, deeply hydrating and contains absolutely no chemical sunscreen. Chemical sunscreen breaks me out horribly. Unfortunately, so do Olay products.

Right now, I am using my fave Neutrogena serum and a couple of drops of jojoba oil. So far, it is working fairly well, but my skin feels a tad tight and in need of "something more".

Stupid, spoiled skin.... :evileye:

I use to use Hope In A Jar myself until I switched to an all natural skin care routine and started making my own moisturizer which is what I still use after two years. Friends and family wanted me to make it avaialbe so I added it to my website.

What I do is 1st to tone my face with the sisley rosewater, then I apply a Hyaluronic Acid essence/serum (it really helps with moisture without a bit a oiliness) then the Sisley ecological compound over it. But sisley products are quite expensive but they are really quite nice for my normal / combination skin.

I do experiment now and then, sometimes I used just plain jojoba oil mixed with a bit of lavender EO over the HA essence. That works quite well too.

And make sure u stay away from harsh cleansers. My skin goes crazy when I use those cleansers that make my skin feel squeaky clean after a wash. It would dry yet oily at the T-zone and I would break out.

I picked up a bottle of Boots No. 7 Advanced Hydration Day Fluid (http://bootsus.bri-global.com/main.asp?cid=33&sid=26&iid=170) and I'm pretty happy with it. For nighttime, I'm using jojoba oil mixed with tea tree if I'm breaking out. So far so good.

ShermieGirl, this product has no sunscreen in it.

Now I just want to find a glycolic acid serum, and I think my skin should be happy.

St. Ives. Its cheap and its a good basic. apply more or less as needed. I also use Origins Perfect World serum and sometimes just use more of that alone and don't moisturize.
