The closest I have come to a HG conditioner so far is Giovanni Magnetic Restruxturing Conditioner.
I alternate between CO & herb washes with the occasional use of shampoo just to keep my hair on its' toes. Or would that be roots? :lafhard:

I like Garnier Fructis Shampoo and conditioner.I also swear by olive oil and aloe vera gel (better than other gels!).I love Aussie 3 Minute Miracle too.SMT is the holy grail of home deep treatments, though I also like protein treatments with egg, olive oil,and milk. :grinhappy:

Koala, you are making me want to try that conditioner.
Steph, when you say heavy cream, do you mean the kind you eat? :boggle: That sounds good, actually. Does it really work? :boggle: ::fascinated:: :p
I like the Elucence shampoo when I do shampoo or TRESemme Vitamin E when I need something more clarifying.
I usually use either VO5 Sun Kissed Raspberry (the old formula without panthenol or biotin) or Suave Coconut to condition-only (CO) wash. I admit I don't do Snowy's Moisture Treatment (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=14635) (SMT) much anymore mainly because my hair seems to not want extra moisture suddenly. :gurn:

Yes Snowy- you *must* try it. Arrr!!! :pirate:

Oooh! YAY! :whoohoo:
Koala! I love the Giovanni Magnetic conditioner!!! It detangles my hair so well and leaves it feeling so moisturized. Snowy, please do try it! I'll buy it from you if you don't like it.
The Heavy Cream isn't food, it's Redken All Soft Heavy Cream - the treatment version of their All Soft conditioner. The conditioner just doesn't have enough oomph for me, but the HC works beautifully. Smells just like honey. God, I love that line...
I also like Suave's Humectant line (knock off of Nexxus moisture line). In fact, I like it better than Nexxus, which surprises me. Anyway, I have a lot of "favorites," but Redken AllSoft remains my number one winner.

Thanks for the clarification, Steph. But now I wonder if real heavy cream would be a decent conditioner...:cloppy:....

This is always a tough one for me b/c I tend to rotate quite a bit through my massive stash of goodies.
For the most part, I do reach for a select few items most often:
*Brocato Cloud 9 shampoo (the BEST sulfate free shampoo I have ever used)
*Pantene RestorativeS conditioner (great slip, only one silicone (amodimethicone), awesome scent)
*Elucence Volume Clarifying shampoo- diluted. I use this after a swim.
*Brocato Cloud 9 Styling Creme
*Pantene Restoratives Frizz Control Serum & Hairspray
* Regis Olive Oil S&C, Mask
*Phyto 9
*Phytodefrisant
*Wen Fig- I used to reach for this quite a bit, but it leaves terrible build-up. I find the need to shampoo with it, and well, that sorta defeats the entire concept of Wen.
That's about it as far as 'reaching' for things most often. I should probably get rid of everything else. My most favorite combo for soft, fluffy hair is a Brocato and Pantene mix. My hair just loves it!

Shampoos:
*NuHair Maximum Volume Shampoo (sulfate free)
*Biolage Hyrdating Shampoo (diluted)
*Sabastian Cello Shampoo for Norm/Dry hair (diluted)
Conditoners:
*Australian Organics Conditioner
*Giovanni 50/50 and Smooth As Silk
*Biolage Conditioning Balm
*Anothony Logistics for Men Stronger Than Usual Conditioner
*Loreal Nature's Therapy Mega Moisture
My hair loves the following extra ingredients: Aloe, Honey, unrefined coconut oil, wheat germ oil and water soluable cones. Also, I love the light weight cone, amodimethicone. I avoid cones in shampoos completely and only use them as my final condish in CWC.
I don't use leave ins for the day time but love to apply SIAS to my ends at night before bed. I wash in the a.m. and get great results, time and time again, after using this. I treat my hair about twice a week to it. :)
BTW: I agree...Redken Heavy Cream is awesome!

Egads, I'm just such a cheapskate. I use White Rain Extra Body condish for CO washing, followed-up by Mastey Frehair creme rinse. (that's my only expensive item). When I need a clarifying wash, I use Suave Daily Clarifying Shampoo, followed by Aussie 3 Minute Miracle (I know, seems like a stupid thing to do: clarify then coat the crap outta it with cone-o-rama) or something nice and moisturizing that's probably cone-laden. OR I will sometimes just use Frehair after clarifying, then spritz-on some of my 'water with Giovanni Direct Leave-in Conditioner in it' that I have in a spray-bottle.
That's pretty much it. Sometimes I just use Dave's S/C (Clairol Fruit Fusion, but right now it's White Rain Energizing Citrus) and do a CWC and call it good. Today I used Physique or something like that (I was at a hotel and it's what they had) Sure smelled good...

I love VO5 Lavender conditioner. It smells so wonderful. I am also a SMT addict. Inbetween SMT I put honey in my 2nd part of COing.

Right now my fav is Down Under Naturals Fruit Kicks for co'ing, but since I am a product junkie I love seeing everyone else's ideas!
And I must say emu oil is the best I've tried so far.

My favorites change all the time. I've kept coming back to Nature's Gate products for several years. When I first began this most recent long hair journey I was posting at Hair Boutique and NG was recommeded to me by a poster over there, Laura Jane, the one who wrote how to make your own scrunchies. I've loved it ever since. I use WR for my 1st C in CO washing. I've recently discovered Elucence Moisture conditioner and love it. Steph I love the Redken Heavy Cream too. Have you tried the Smooth Down Butter Treat? It's awesome too. Other faves are Kiehls brand and the GM line. I've been trying very hard with the Chagrin Valley bars but they are not working the greatest on my hair but I love the face and body bars. This week I'll be trying the Ojon Restorative treatment and have high hopes for it.

I'm trying to be a product minimalist...
Life brand Honey-Sunflower (? the big, cheap no-cones yellow one) for CO washing; Regis olive oil shampoo and conditioner; and AG re:coil for hold.
Juniper
June 11th, 2006, 06:21 AM
I Condition-Only (CO) every other day with Suave Daily Clarifying.
Not really intentionally product-minimalist, just lazy. And nothing but CO has ever changed my hair one iota (CO turned my hair from mostly straight and frizzy to wavy and less frizzy).

At the moment, I'm using the Suave Colorfix line. It smells amazing, and it also has kept my dyed hair from fading. No other color care shampoo has kept my hair from fading.
And I'm also using the champagne kiss V05 conditioner on the days when I wet my hair to keep it braided and out of my face. Which is becoming more and more often, but... anyway.
I also love coconut oil. Though I don't use it as much as I used too, and I probably should, but when I do use it for heavy oilings, my hair comes out fabulous.

Right now the only thing I use is Cream of Nature for normal hair. I used to use VO5 Tea Therapy but it made my scalp itch really bad. I didn't realize it was the shampoo until I changed shampoos. Cream of Nature for normal hair doesn't have sulphates in it and I learned over at LHC that sulphates can make the scalp itch, that seems to be true in my case. I'm looking for another kind of shampoo just so I can alternate.

My favorites are:
Chagrin Valley Shampoo Bars - I use several different ones but my current favorite is Lavender Spice.
ACV/EO/Herbal Rinse - Bragg Orgainc Raw Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar with Lavender and Rosemary Essential Oils added. Chamomile Tea instead of water and sometimes adding fresh rosemary, lavender and or mint to the chamomile tea brew.
My Own Mixes of Leave Ins - Organic Aloe Vera Gel mixed with Jojoba oil and Glycerine. I also like to use Organic Virgin Coconut Cream (oil), Raw Unrefined Shea Butter. I have several mixtures that I use using various oils and butters.

My favorite products right now:
For my crazy CO routine: VO5 KLS, VO5 SKR, VO5 Tea Therapy.
I also like kimberlily's defrizz spray as a leave in but that is more of a recipe than a product...it's an aloe/jojoba oil spray.
I am a product minimalist but I like to try lots of stuff! I usually try to limit myself to just trying something new when I finish something old. I think I need to try some White Rain conditioners for my CO routine.

Well, I haven't found anything my hair loves or hates. I'm always switching stuff around in the shower.
I have had some "eh" moments, like with Mode de Vie Shea Butter shampoo; it's not great, it's not terrible, it'll do in a pinch.
If I decide to go wavy/curly, I still prefer using Aubrey's Mandarin Magic Moisturizing Jelly instead of an actual gel. Mandarin Magic has always worked well for me.
Before bed, I use shea butter on my braid tassle (if I remember).
Current products in the shower are:
Shampoos: Druide Dandrex, MdV Shea Butter, Redken clarifying cream shampoo, GM Blue shampoo.
Conditioners: VO5 SKR (old formula), WREB (old formula), Suave Daily Clarifying, Suave Naturals Lavender, KMS deep conditioner.
Most of these are in the shower in order to use them up! If I use them up, I have an excuse to go buy something else! :cheesy:
Oh, and :moo: just because. :p

Here are mine, tried a lot of condish (i was inspired by the peeps in LHC to change my daily wash routine) and so far here are the best (for me) :sweatdrop:
Conditioner: Suave Naturals Conditioner Tropical Coconut
V05 Moisture Milk Creamy Fresh Peaches
Suave Milk & Honey
I think my hair loves protein. :grinhappy:
The only Shampoo I use now is organic herb: Chagrin Valley Shampoo Bar Herb Garden (every other day, whenever I exercise)
Leave Ins: Jojoba Oil
Intensive Leave In treatment (overnight): Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, once a month. If im too lazy to do an overnight treatment, i would leave it in for an hour or so before I shower.
I do ACV RINSE now :whoohoo: .......*i honestly love ACV!*
Btw SunCat, I like your EO/ACV/Herbal Rinse, I might try brewing one (i hope you dont mind) :grinhappy:

I am currently busy with a Water Only / No Washing routine and to help my ends if they get dry I love SIAS. In fact regardless of the routine I am following I always find a way to squeeze in a little SIAS (that reminds me I must go and orders some!)

Conditioners - Lots of VO5 and Suave flavors for CO, also Natures gate jojoba
Leave-in - FOTE aloe gel, jojoba oil
Mister to refresh curls (morning or anytime)- some combo of aloe gel, almond, olive, coconut oils and lemon EO for spritzing (and sometimes conditioner used for COing)
LOVE LOVE LOVE SMT often with heat but without honey

Though I usually switch back and forth I always return to Pantene (conditioner only, not the poo). I guess my hair really likes cones. I recently tried the restoratives line (the anti-breakage, at least I think that is what it is called) and I LOVED it. It reminds me of the little conditioners they put in hair dye kits from when I used to dye my hair. Smells really nice too!
I try not to shampoo too much, but i usually will use whatever I have, diluted.
I also love to put jojoba in my conditioner (not the ones for CO).
For COing, I like most Suave conditioners, especially the strawberry one.

My current favorite routine (I reserve the right to change my mind at any time, and any number of times) is as follows:
I am currently using Morrocco Method (henceforth MM), and rotating all shampoos. I like Fire and Earth best. I follow with the Ch'i conditioner and a white vinegar rinse. I don't like any of his spray leave ins.
I may go back to previous favorites, as when I tried MM I only intended to rotate it in, not switch: Chagrin Valley Shampoo bars especially Lavender Spice (best smell) and Herb Garden (gets my scalp cleaner). I also like to make my own herbal washing formulas. There are many recipes posted in my journal at TLHC. If anyone wants me too, I will post one in my journal here. On the very rare occasions when I use conditioner it is Rosary Goth brand.
I tend to follow up all washes with white vinegar rinse, it really works to help me feel non-itchy and extend time between washes (I now average between 3-6 days between), and then a light coconut oil oiling. I also tend to hand dampen my hair daily and apply a tiny bit of coconut oil.

My S&C's change with my hair's needs (one of the joys of being a wavy, hair needs change frequently, mostly due to weather and humidity changes :grinhappy: ) but my one constant, no matter what, has been Aveda Elixir leave in conditioner. one water soluable cone and it smooth well without being heavy.

Right now, Redken's Blonde Glam Crystal Flash is my new fav anti-frizz, shine-enhancing product. I have a sample of it, and I'm loving it. Slight problem with it being about USD$13, though. Oh, well. It's worth it.
