I bought some stuff last night that has peanut oil, olive oil, sweet almond oil, and lanolin in it. I bought it to try on my scalp psorasis and because it smells great! like roses. But I was just wondering if lanolin would cause buildup on the hair or anything. Because it smells so good, I was thinking of using it as a light leave in after my shower.

Lanolin in very small quantities is used in conditioner as an anti-static. It can cause buildup sometimes and, if you're already prone to it, acne. But it's not supposed to be as hard o get out as cones, and since it is diluted it should be fine even if you CO, as long as it's far down on the list of ingredients.

Some of my favorite hair products have lanolin in them but I am sure they are in very small quantities. Be sure to clarify if you notice build up.

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll just try it out and see how it goes.
CB: I really like this avatar too. I'm going to see if I can steal it and bring it over to LHC when we're up again.

Like CB, some of my favorites have lanolin too, such as L'oreal Nature's Therapy Unfrizz and Redken Butter Treat. Note: these are both 'cone products.
Lanolin makes a great lip balm. I use lanolin meant for nursing mothers' nipples.

Yeah, this was'nt so great on my hair. Love it as a body oil though. So not a total waste.

I tried some Lanisoh lanolin on my hair after getting adventurous with some new shampoo (which dried my hair out) a couple of weeks ago. I didn't find it was great or otherwise, although it appeared to wash out quite readily. (I had more results on my skin than hair - lovely big red pimples and blotches, as I tried it as a moisturiser instead of sorbolene too.)

A great treatment for psoriasis, and yes, I speak from experience, is sunlight. Sitting in the sun for 10-20 minutes a day, helps kill the cells that are causing the plaque that rises to the skin surface to quickly. I once had an outbreak on my eyelids and under them, I couldn't even open them. As you know, you cannot put steroid cream on your eyelids. I had short term steroid pills, with the order to sit in the sun. Hard to find the sun in the winter in Oklahoma, so I would go sit in a room with a tanning bed, with my eyes closed. I wouldn't get in the bed, just sat in a chair.
Every now and then I get a patch of it (me have stress, imagine that!) and I just sit outside for a bit, works like a charm.

In the past once as an emergency hair repair I used unprocessed lanolin (it has the viscosity of tar and smells like a farm) and it worked beautifully- in _very_ small amounts.of course, I smelled like a sheep for a few days; but it did save my hair.

better late than never i guess - i didnt know if you knew that real lanolin is sheep's oil. Lanolin is note a 'cone', it is oil from sheeps wool, to be more specific. I've heard (heard, now) that it's molecules are much like those of mineral oil & petroleums - too large to be absorbed thru our skin, nevermind hair. Probably throw a good coating down on your hair, but eventually starve of it it's moisture by preventing moisture getting into the hairshaft.
Just my 2 cents- but hey, if it works use it!
