Since it's so hard to find a really great bra, I was wondering what everybody's favorite bra brands are! I like Victoria's Secret, but I don't buy them often. What kind do you like best?

I think Felina is my favorite, but I only buy it if it is on sale (and I'm in love with that particular bra - happened only once) or I find them at Ross for less than $10 - when I did this week! :happy dance:

In New York a few weeks ago, I went to H&M, and was surprised to find that their bras are really comfy. I also like Felina's with modal, and VS.
...I just like having insane cleavage. :lafhard:

Thanks, "Bear Ladies!" Truthfully, I've never heard of either of those brands. I wonder if I can find them on eBay. Oh, wait, stupid question. You can find anything on eBay!

Actually, you can't find everyting on ebay. I've been hoping to find broccoli seed oil there and it is never there!

I hate bras. Hate them with a burning passion. For the last 10 months, I've lived in Playtex and Motherhood nursing bras, which are functional but that's it.
Bra shopping usually brings me to tears. Either that or blind rage. My girls are two very different sizes, and it is impossible to find a bra that is 36C on the left and 36A on the right. I will never find a bra that fits properly. Either I spill out of one side, or the other side gapes or puckers. I can't wear anything but pushup bras, because they're the only thing I can wear that looks half decent, since the padding gives me the illusion of having boobs that are roughly the same size.
Gah... I am not looking forward to the big post-weaning bra shopping trip. I might require therapy, or at least copious amounts of alcohol afterward :gurn:

I would agree that it is one of the most horrid of all shopping necessities! I have one Olga that I've had for several years that actually fits well. Also, some Warners models fit, but not all. I refuse to wear VS because their ads are very offensive to me. And I hate underwires!

<giggling> We are beary glad to help! ;)
I went to a foundations store and got fitted. That's where I first tried on a Felina. I really liked it. The foundations store I went to was an independently owned store, nothing like VS or the department stores. The lady who fitted me looked like she'd been doing it for yeaaaaarrrrrs!
I highly recommend going to such a store to get fitted, especially if you've "never found one that fit".

I agree TB, getting fitted is the best thing to do. So many women wear the wrong sized bra. I like Vassarette, which is hard to find. Olga fits fairly well, I normally buy my bras from Penney's. I can't remember the name of the one I'm wearing, but I got two of them at Ross's for less than $5 apiece. The regular retail price tag on them was $29. I love shopping at Ross!

I hate bras with a passion. Hate, hate, hate. As soon as I walk in the door- off it comes! Actually, I've been known to take them off in the car too. When we were dating, Hubbs found a bra of mine in my glove compartment. If not for the fact that my whole darn family knows how I rip 'em off...
I would've had a lot of 'splainin' to do. :lafhard:
Some of the most comfortable I have found are VS. That's not to say I like them; I don't. They're just more tolerable than most.

Luckily I'm, um, petite, so I can get away without them a lot of the time. Camis with built in shelfs are my friends
But I am a big proponent of finding a local lingerie store with helpful staff. I've gotten my best fitting bras at my local independent shop, where I've driven myself insane at department stores. Cosabella "Soire" is great, but my favorite is a red lacy Aubade :innocent:

I hate underwires too, but I caved recently and let the nice lady at Victoria's Secret fit me into the Ipex Demi bra, I bought three, black, nude and pink. They don't leave itchy red marks lilke other underwires have. Yay!
kimberlily ((((lots of hugs to you))). Have you thought about getting some of those "chicken cutlets" to help your girls out? A good foundations store like Teacherbear is talking about would be able to get you fitted.

I used to buy Warner's bras but can't find them anymore. I have a new favourite brand, though--Gilligan O'Malley. I have bought 5 Gilligan O'Malley bras and 3 pairs of underwear in the last month, and they are all so comfortable. Plus they come in pretty colours! One of them is the same pink as the LHC pink skin
I prefer the style of bras with soft cups but underwire. That way the girls aren't being squished but they're supported.

I Can't fit in my selection 34A Jockey bras to save my life, not by a long shot, but my 32A VS I'm about to POP out of... on the left side only. erg. I do love this VS bra though. It's from the Pink collection. Very comfy and it fits good enough to make it look like I'm not flat as a board. :sweatdrop:
I should probably get fitted properly because my friends think I'm a B, but I say it's all in the VS Pink bra, which isn't even padded. Just good support.

Heh, this is a little rant-y.
I hate bra shopping. I'm an A, and it seems like every bra maker out there wants to put PADDING in A cups. It's like they automatically assume anyone in that size is insecure about their girls.
That said, the only thing I've found that comes close to being decent is Maidenform or Lily of France.

I wear Body by Victoria Victoria's Secret bras. The shaping ones because they hide my, um, piercings rather well. Lately, though (for the past few months, actually), I've been wearing my running bra non-stop because the straps don't stretch and it works as a minimizer. I'm a 36 DD, so I can use all of the support I can get.

Phantasmagoria, I KNOW! What is up with that? Sometimes, a padded bra is nice (I love my underwireless add-a-size from maidenform), but not ALWAYS, plus the non-padded bras in that size are always boring colors. I can't like my boobies the way they are AND want them colorful? grrrrr.
I also like Gilligan OMalley, but I've been wearing my fruit of the loom 3 for $10 sports-ish bras because stupid bcp is making my boobs grow.
I tend to buy bras when I'm at home, as my mother understands (and will fund) the evil of underwear shopping, and then I have someone to go "Why do they not have normal bras? I don't want them to look like cupcakes!" at. There was once this huge pale green padded bra that I compared to the Dr. Suess story about the pale green pants with nobody inside them, and that's become a running joke. I'm so glad I'm more comfortable with my body than I was a few years ago. . .

I love it. I used to have bras that has this microfiber- it was so soft- better than silk. I'm looking for more. The best is, they are better than t shirt bras in my opinion because they are so smooth- there isn't any lines or bumps just smooth shape.
Next- getting a microfiber strapless ;)

That's good to know about the microfiber, it is starting to get hot here in Texas and I was worried, I always wore cotton bras before.
I will say that the microfiber panties aren't quite as nice as cotton in the Texas heat...
EDIT: oh wait, maybe you all didn't mean that it was cooler, just that it is very soft and comfortable. Oh well, I will be testing microfiber bras against the heat this summer.

SERIOUSLY! That's part of the reason I just don't go into dept stores any more, if there's anything that fits me it's both ugly and majorly padded! And molded cups don't fit right as they're always too narrow and too deep. I thought I was relegated to camisoles for anything cute until I went to the little shop by my work, the lady found me some gorgeous bras that fit like a glove!
I've had much better luck with european brands than american ones, who seem to think that boobs smaller than a 34B don't really exist :evileye:
I haven't bought anything from them, but AA Lingerie (http://www.aalingerie.com/) carries some cute stuff.

I just measured myself according to these instructions: http://www.afraidtoask.com/breast/breastmeasuringcup.html
My ribcage is 32, which makes my bra size a 36, and my over-bust measurement is 37. That would make me a 36A or 36B, but any time I've tried a B cup it fits the smaller side perfectly and I spill out of the larger one :( Wah!!!!!!!!

I think that chest measurment(band size)- going up 4 or 5 is too much. Everytime I have been fitted with that measurement method the band size was too big.
Going up 2 from the measurment, and then counting cup measurement from there- I think is more accurate. :)

Actually 34C , your breast measurement is 37, count from 34- thats three.
A 36B is a 34C- the band is one size smaller and the cup a little bigger. You said the B fits perfect on one side but your bigger on the other- you might try a D for the other side.
If 34 band is too tight- then you might go to a 36C :)

I don't really have a favourite 'brand'. It's just whatever fits that I can buy. Which isn't much. So, my favourites right now are some (I have three...heh) Wacoal strapless bras in a 36DD. :lafhard: Not quite the right size, but it's as close as I've been able to get. 36DD is my 'cheating' size, which isn't working as well the last year or so (lost some weight...gah). :ooh:
Truly, I don't know what size I would really wear...probably a 30F (or G? something...give or take a size in both the cup and band) with a 2" extender. That might fit, but I've never been able to try one on, so...don't know.

I just keep pokin' it back in until the hole's too big to hold the underwire. :gurn:
When the hole's too big, and/or the straps are too stretched out (which happens faster if you're like me and take your bra off while the rest of your clothes are still on ;) ) it's time for Miss Koala to break down and buy a new bra or two. :p

My perfect bra would be a neutral tan color, absolutely smooth surface (no seams, no bumps, no lace), straps don't cut into me anywhere, and the curve of the underwire fits my curve. Cleavage enhancement is appreciated, but optional. Do I ever find such a bra? Rarely, very rarely.
For comfort, I have a Triumph bra that's a clear winner. I should buy more of those, even though they are closer to white than tan.
In reality, though, I have more H&M bras than anything else. I ought to throw out all the old ones that really aren't the right size (which I discovered after an LHC thread on the topic last summer) but it's hard to throw away perfectly fine bras.
My correct size has proven to be quite a challenge to find, at least among the cheaper brands. I tried at Victoria's Secret last fall, and was told they don't carry it. Well, thanks. Guess you're not supposed to be smaller than a 34 around.
Recently, I've noticed H&M having more bras in my size, which made me very happy. They're decently comfy and quite durable, plus every now and then it's possible to find a tan, plain one amidst the frills and lace insanity. They've got lots of cute things, but I don't want cute. I want invisible. Why is that so hard?
Someone said something about underwires coming out to poke you. Some years ago that wasn't uncommon, but it seems they're making them more sturdy now. I can't remember when it last happened, though I do remember having to dig it out from my armpit or discretely push it back below the neckline of my top. :lafhard:

I could never find a bra that would fit me right, I kept stuffing myself into Bali 38DDDs. I found online Plus Size Bras (defunct now) and measured myself and found out I was a 32G. I copied the instructions and put them up on my website for when I lose weight and need a new size: How To Measure For A Bra (http://josephinesgate.net/josephine/Bra2.html). They dont' add 4-5 inches on the band, and they have you measure above the bust to catch any 'overspill' that needs to be factored in.

They add 2 or 3 inches.
CHESTBAND SIZE - BANDEAU - BACK CLOSURE
Round off your underbust measurement and add 2 or 3 to obtain an even number. The chestband size should be numerically about the same as the measurement of your abovebust without bra. If the difference is more than 2", then you'll need to try on some bras to determine the best fit. Usually the best fit chestband size is the numerical average of the abovebust without bra measurement and the recommended chestband size.
This is your chestband size for only a BACK CLOSURE BANDEAU bra.
Examples: 34" + 2 = 36, an even number. 33" + 2 = 35, an odd number, so do 33" + 3 = 36
I order my bras form Undercover Experience (http://www.undercoverexperience.co.uk/index.htm)only when they're on sale. :) Selection is less, but they're 50% off! They have free shipping too.

I've never understood the whole bra sizing thing. I just try on bras until I find ones that fit. :purplex: Granted, I usually look for 34Cs, but that's because they've been proven to fit time and time again. I've tried on 32Cs, 36Cs, and 34Ds, but I don't think I own any of those sizes. (I'd probably try 32D if they, y'know, existed in stores...) Why would you buy a bra if it doesn't fit you? And if it does fit you, how can it be wrong?

Some women are a bra size they can't find in a store: 28-32 C cup and over, so they have to go up in band sizes. Their breasts fit 34/36/38 C cup and up cup sizes but the band is too big- it has to be altered.
For some women its easier and less pricey to buy a 10 dollar bra and alter it than buy an expensive special ordered bra in their exact size.

That does make sense. I didn't know you could alter bras. It sounds hard to me, but I'm not a very good seamstress to begin with :gurn:

I'm not a seamstress either, but you can fix the band size so its tighter around. Sometimes I can find a 34D that fits with the tightest eye as is, but sometimes I have to cut the fabric where the eyes are right behind the first or second set of eyes and reattatching behind the "last set", making it now the first set- if that makes sense.

My favorite bras are Felina & Fredericks of Hollywood. Some Bali bra styles I can find to fit right but not many.

I always have to try them on. The style is important because the tops of my girls seem flat but I have a lot more curve below. I can't get full coverage to fit without gaping. I also find the wires end up digging in at the sides or if they fit the cup is too big. I try all the combinations around my size until I find one that I'm happy with or I leave in disgust. Think I will have to try a small shop if the service is that much better than in a department store.

Be sure the bras really do fit and they don't sell you something that doesn't just because it's the closest they have to your size. That's what happend to me when I was younger and not as confident, and of course they woudn't take them back. :(

Meh, I think I have to get a bigger bra for my period. My regular ones don't fit today!:depressed:
I just finished measuring too. Apparently, I'm a 34 C. Normally, I'm a pretty small B... Grrr.
I'm still lucky, though. My mom is a 34 G! She can't find bras in regular stores that are even close to her size, but there's a little boutique in town where she can have them fitted now. Before then, she could only buy bras when we went to larger cities, like Stockholm. However, that really doesn't make me hate bra shopping any less.:lafhard:

Does she mind ordering from the internet? I'm a 32G and I get mine from http://www.undercoverexperience.co.uk/. They have free shipping, and thier return policy is great.

Ah bras... I hate them so much, but I don't really dare go without!
I usually shop clearance only - I'm on a fairly tight budget - but the sizing drives me batty.
I used to buy only 38C, but now my best fitting bra is a 40D... And an online test told me I was a 42D. (I think it's a liar.) I give up... Gravity can win. Heehee...

I have 34 D boobs. I SWEAR that the size of my rib cage swells from 34-38 and back when its humid because of my spinal cord disease! I have a fluid filled sac inside my spinal cord and it sometimes is filled with spinal fluid (which it SHOULDN'T be) or sometimes not. So I have a hell of time finding boulder holders that don't make me feel like I am being put in a corset or make my rib cage and chet hurt. Underwire is definately out!
