View Full Version : Spotty Legs After Waxing?

Does anyone else who waxes their legs find that the hair follicles not only get red after waxing, but stay sort of spotty on your legs?
Its been more than a month since I waxed my legs and just realized that a ton of the hair follicles are still really red. It kind of looks like I have freckles all over my legs sometimes. Are these scars???
It kind of makes me not want to wax my legs anymore. I mean isn't the point beauty??? Urgh, its a little gross (and really irritating). I've heard aloe can reverse or get rid of scars less than five years old, but even if it could get rid of them, I don't want to keep scarring my legs everytime I wax them....Any thoughts on this?

I had that problem too. That's part of the reason I stopped waxing after 6 weeks. I'm also prone to ingrowns, so that's the main reason. Are you quite fair skinned? I am, and I think that's why the follicles stayed red.

Yes, I am very fair-skinned.
Did the reddness go away with time, or did you use something on it helped, too?
This is a silly question, but how do you know if you have ingrown hairs? The spot hurts a lot?
Thanks!

Yup. As a halibut-belly-white girl, the only time I've not had them is when I was tanning regularly and my skin was darker than my hair.

Would an epilator cause the same reaction?
I may try that, but they're so expensive, especially when I'm not sure if I'll even like it/use it.
I may just leave the hair on my legs. I really don't mind it...Sorry to everyone who has to look at me though :-)

I know this is an old thread, but I thought I would add that I get the same spotty reaction with epilation as with waxing.
My legs are really pale and I have to wait about a day for the spots to calm down. I think it's just the fact that the hair has been pulled out that causes the irritation. But, at least it goes away and I'm not left with a shadow of dark hair under the skin like when I just shave it. If you have a problem with waxing, I do not think that epilating will solve it. Unless of course, you're allergic to the wax or something.

Ooh, old thread revival.
I too, am very fair skinned. I get shaving rash - so I gave up shaving, smooth legs my behind! - waxing gives me those spots you refer too, and I hated the mess of it all. So now I epilate.
I find that I only get the red spots if I leave it too long between epilations, and the hair is a little longer. If I do it more frequently, say, twice a week or so, I don't get spots.
I slather my legs in aloe vera - or maybe shea butter would work? - after epilation, and it seems to cool the irritation.
Hope that helps, years after you asked the original question.

I always get the bumps straight away after waxing, sugaring or epilating. If you soak them in warm water for a few minutes they calm down fast. Also I like aloe gel or a tiny bit of oil on wet skin to moisturise.
Hope that helps, years after you asked the original question.

It might help someone else even if Equeena doesn't come back to read it. *shrug*
