View Full Version : What's your "comfort" routine?

Stephanie

My "comfort" routine that I can always count on regardless of the day I'm having...

Wash, exfoliate, and moisturize
Lancome Waterproof Concealor in Porcelain
Geografix Mineral Makeup in Seychelles
Physician's Formula blush in Blushing Nude (applied as a bronzer)
Stila Espresso eyeshadow for eyeliner (applied wet) and on eyebrows
Stila Puck eyeshadow (shimmery dark beige)
Max Factor's 2000 Calorie Waterproof mascara in Brown Black

Anyone else have a routine they can count on? :)

Eyeshadow, unless I'm being really forgetful in the morning. I'm trying to get some more self-discipline, which would mean getting up earlier and doing a whole morning routine. Something simple, like mineral makeup foundation, eyes, and lipstick. I want to become a daily lipstick wearer!

Think red lips will look funny when I'm out painting the fence? :geek:

Red lips while painting the fence? Nah! How about 3 ct diamond earings and a tennis bracelet? :lafhard:

Well I don't know if you can call this comfort routine, it's more like a labor intensive routine. Getting longer as I get older.
Each morning I wash with Neo Strata facial wash, then I tone with home made rose water, then I apply ROC under eye cream, then I apply Neo Strata daily moisturizer with SPF 15, then I apply my Lise Watier foundation with SPF 30, then I put on a touch of blush, light lipstick and mascara, but only after curling my eyelashes and checking to see if I need to pluck a stray eyebrow here and there. Then I pat a dab of translucent powder on my face to get rid of the shine.

Then, believe it or not, if I have to go to a game later on in the afternoon and stand out in the sun for 2 or more hours, my cosmetics lady at the drugstore just gave me a special SPF 60 sunscreen to apply for the afternoon sun, because at this point in the day the others have worn off. If I don't use this stuff, I get brown patchy skin.

It sounds like I have a pound of junk on my face at this point but it is barely discernable actually. I only wear the foundation in the spring and summer, otherwise I go barefaced except for the cream.

My routine is very mimimalist - wash my face with the soap in the shower, use a few drops of jojoba oil as a moisturiser, slap on some tinted sunscreen, a bit of glossy lip balm and that's it. :whoohoo:

I would doll myself up a bit more if I had fences to paint though!! :innocent:

Routine I can count on...
> Cleanse, tone, moisturise
> Very light 2-way cake foundation (or sometimes none at all)
> MAC eyeshadow palette - for fast and easy smokey eyes
> Lip balm & lip gloss

I love Stila. I had this lipstick in the perfect red for me and it broke :sob: I need to find a small container for it so I can continue applying it with my finger or something...

Splash with water, moisturize, put on MMU, blush, mascara and lip gloss. Takes ten minutes, tops, and then I'm all cute and bouncy for the rest of the day.:whoohoo:

The no fuss, bare bones routine for me is:

1> wash, tone, moisturize ~ DHC
2> suncreen or MMU (only foundation pdr) ~ right now using SunCats:happy:
3> mascara ~ MAC Pro Lash
4> lip gloss or sheer moisturizing lip stick - in a neutral/nude or bronze shade

Having a toddler leaves very little time for primping. :cheesy:

Wash with Clinique or Dr. Haushka cleansing cream.

Moisturize with Clinique eye cream and face lotion.

Clinique foundation, concealer, powder, blush, lipstick, mascara and eyeliner.

It sounds like a lot, but it barely looks like I wear make up. :lafhard: This takes about 5 minutes.

Wash with L'oreal Pure Zone
Tone with rosewater
Apply Oxy liberally and mosturise with Nivea Oil Regulating Fluid

I know this lady who likes to mow her lawn.

Except, she does it dressed to the NINES. She'll mow her lawn in an obviously expensive business suit, high heels, and gold jewelry. She's always perfectly made up, and her hair is always in an elegant updo.

I love her. :D

I wish I had some sort of set routine but I don't. It all depends on what mood I'm in. It also doesn't help that I work as a dog bather for part of the day. Hair gets all over the place and between the heat and the hair it's a recipe for disaster! So unless I know there is a day when I'm just going to be working at the office, then I might get dressed up! Our office is EXTREMELY casual and I can go to work wearing a t-shirt and jeans if I wanted. So it's not really an incentive to get dressed up! When I do use any products, I'll use toner, mascara, and a lipstain. Currently I'm using a drugstore brand witch hazel as my toner, Full N Soft as my mascara, and a lip stain from the Body Shop.

My routine:
-Use olive oil on my face to clean it.Then I use an acne wash.Benzoyl peroxide.Let the BP dry up.A little bit of olive oil to moisturize. This routine has made my skin soft and it has reduced my acne.

*If I wear makeup:
-Foundation.Sometimes I'll wear liquid foundation, other times I'll wear powder.if I really want to cake it up(gotta hide my acne scars and redness),I'll use both.
-Lip balm. Then lip gloss or lipstick.I recently started using lip balm because my lips are always scaly.I don't know why.
-Eyeshadow.I need eyeliner though...

Sometimes I will only make my lips look nice, and other times it is the eyes.It depends on my mood.

Thought about it:

If we are talking face regimen: Baby wipes and now and then biore strips.

If we are talking a destress: Showers, and computer time .

Wash my face (these days with the same CV bar I use to wash my hair)
Smooth a couple of drops of jojoba or whipped shea onto my cheeks, neck and throat
Dust shimmery taupe eyeshadow (Bobbi Brown) on my eyelids and shimmery sand from crease to brow
Brush eyebrows up with clear mascara
Two coats of black mascara
Clear lip balm
Hair in an updo (FT or bun)

Lip balm. I'm a simple girl.

My ideal normal routine (but I'm lazy)
Wash face with Clearasil
Tinted moisturizer
Pressed powder
Tinted lipbalm

1. Wash with Neutrogena Deep Clean
2. Bit of moisturizer around eyes and cheeks (varies from aloe vera gel to shea butter to whatever commercial moisturizer I have at the time)
3. Sea salt soaks for my piercings while the moisturizer soaks in - takes 10 minutes, perfect!
4. AL foundation, BE Mineral Veil, bit of blush to look alive and, most importantly, flaming red lips. I can do my eyes or not do my eyes. Most people don't notice. It's all about the lips.

I don't know about a "comfort routine", but I had to pick just one makeup product for the day, it would be eyebrow powder. I look rather dead if I don't do my eyebrows.

I do the whole face routine 6 days out of the week with a hodgepodge of products; I just can't seem to settle on what are my HG products. Except the eyebrow powder - I'm pretty happy with my Avon brow powder.

I have a myriad of little jars and vials I use instead of make-up on "comfort" days. I have something a little different for each "zone" and for any "problems" (blemish stick, a little concealer)...all burts bees. That and check the eyebrows and if I need to do the teeth whitening gel again yet. :)
When I keep my skin balenced and rested and am otherwise groomed, I don't think I need makeup.

wash with clinique liquid facial soap (replaces the old bar) or cetaphil.

Exfoliate with clinique #2 clarifying lotion

apply clinique dramatically different moisturizing gel

YSL touche eclat hilighter under eyes & on the little reddish spots next to nostrils.

Clinique concealer on any old blemish marks (usually one per month:grinhappy: )

possibly some clinique quickliner smuged into upper lid & blended with a neutral shadow

ALWAYS blackest black mascara, currently clinique Long Pretty Lashes

blush/bronzer, currently a shimmery tan/pink from The body shop...pink gold???

Clinique buttershine listick/gloss in First Love

occaisionally the shades change, but the products are pretty routine. I am slightly olive skinned, and tan super easily, so then I lay off the blush/bronzer.

LOL! I thought that looked odd when I read my post:lafhard:

No, and I don't work for them, n'or does anyone in my family:happy:
I just find that the 3 step works pretty well for my skin, and with all of the free gifts with purchase, i get to try lots of their products, so it seems to be what I always have on hand. If I like the trial size, I buy it in full size whenI need it. Clever marketing, really.

(you should see under my bathroom sink, I've been using Clinique since highschool, and I almost always get the GWP, I have TONS of those little makeup bags, and so many trial sizes of stuff it would make your head spin. I try to give away what I know I won't use, because it's a shame to see it go bad. )

I don't really have a comfort routine. If I'm feeling blah though, I break out the more colourful MAC shadows... I like Trax, Sketch, and the other plummy shades to make my green eyes stand out. Pair smoky eyes with a fairly nude lip, and I feel instantly better about my looks.

Morning:

Wash face in shower with Olay cleanser
Moisturize with Olay moisturizer (SPF 15)
Clinique base powder (buff)
Clinique powder blush (fig)
Clinique powder eye shadow (browns)
Clinique quickliner (roast coffee)
Clinique naturally glossy mascara (jet brown)
Carmex on my lips
Sometimes I apply lipstick or gloss, but my daily routine includes just Carmex. Then, chapstick throughout the day.

This may sound like a lot, but it doesn't appear that way. In fact, I often get comments that I "don't wear much makeup."

At night, I am too lazy to do anything. That's right ... I don't even wash off my makeup. If I have a major break out (about once or twice a year), I will wash my face and moisturize before bed. But, only if I feel that I HAVE to.

I'm with wavebaby on the whole GWP thing. I only replenish my makeup twice a year at Bonus Time! I have discovered several products that way.

DarkStrands
June 30th, 2006, 10:20 AM
My products change: at the moment I am
Washing with LizEarle cleanse and polish
then moisturise with either pure cocconut oil or my Olay gel I had to stop using olive oil for the summer because it was making my face flake.

I also switch between foundations depending on how made up I want to be or if it's warmer or cooler or if i am trying something out.

At the moment I am usually using either Models Prefer hands free foundation in Light applied with the fabulous sponge they provide (best make-up sponge I've ever used)

or Barefaced Beauty MMU in Serenity

I then usually apply my lip liner, at the moment it's a nude from Smashbox (works pretty well with everything)

Then either a Models prefer lipgloss generaly the lightest one for a more natural look with a bit of shine, or at the moment I am really into MaxFactor Lipfinity in either Endurable or Blushing. I've got other lipsticks I use occaissionaly in various shades from browny to shimmery pinks and deep red.

Then clinique liner in black (the soft ones in the tube)

Then eyeshadow most days I'm working with Smashbox from a set I bought about a year ago (shimmery beige and deeper beige) or my Models Prefer shimmery green. It's an olivish green and works well with brown clothing.

Then MaxFactor Masterpeice mascara on lashes and brows.

If I feel too pale I use the pinky blush that came with my smashbox set or a more shimmery stick from Models Prefer.

If I can't be bothered I'll usually throw on foundation, mascara and lippy or lipgloss only.

Mine:

rinse with cold water, moisturize, sunscreen.
benefit blush in dandelion
benefit brow zings - makes it look like I have eyebrows!
benefit high brow - makes it look like I have an arch.
curl lashes
either chapstick or red lips (fav red = stila poppy).

I get my lashes tinted so I don't have to wear mascara. And lately I have been wearing a light beigy shadow too.

ETA: night routine.

jojoba on cotton pads - as many as needed to remove all makeup and dirt.

It is the simplest, easiest, cheapest and best routine I've ever done!!

My bare bones routine is usually:

Tushies baby wipes to cleanse (with a little squish of oil to take off eye make-up at night).
MMU on my under-eye circles.
Rimmel eyebrow pencil in hazel.
Black Max Factor mascara (soon to change, I've held onto the black for too long after my goth phase).
Lipbalm (my own).

A slightly more elaborate but just as reliable routine:
OCM or wash with natural soap, then tone with cider vinger and rooibos tea, then depending on the weather or my skin I'll either moisturise with aloe vera or coconut oil and shea butter.
MMU on my under-eyes, and a light dusting over my face and blemishes.
Rimmel brow pencil.
MMU eyeshadows (usually parma violet and african violet from lily lolo, but I'll also tuck into my different sample colours often).
Black mascara.
Lip balm and maybe a slick of whatever neutral lipstick that's closest.

In the morning:

- Clean teeth :D
- Wash my face with lukewarm water and Lush Fresh Farmacy
- Spray a bit of Lush's Breath of Fresh Air toner on a cotton pad and dab it on my face
- Apply Lavera Basis Sensitiv lipbalm
- Dab a bit of Weleda Almond Moisturizer on (or Lush Paradise Regained)
- Apply mascara (Maybelline Volum' Express; and quite lots of it)
- If the moisturizer has soaked in my face, I use a bit of MAC Blush (Gleeful) on my cheekbones or right under my cheekbones
- Apply a natural looking lipstick or a gloss/lipbalm from L'Occitane (the Rose or Peach one)
-> Done!

In the evening:
- Clean teeth again :D
- Wash face with Lush Fresh Farmacy
- Apply Lush Breath of Fresh Air toner
- Apply Lavera Basis Sensitiv lipbalm
-> No moisturizer at night!

That's my routine so far, I always look 'natural' except for the mascara, which I like to apply more dramatic, it really makes the eyes stand out IMO.
