I just wanted to remind everyone that makeup brushes are bacteria breeders and need to be cleaned on a regular basis. No matter what kind of makeup you use they should be cleaned at least every two weeks, once a week is even better. I just cleaned mine today so I thought I would remind everone :grinhappy:
To clean makeup brushes you can use either your regular facial cleanser or a mild shampoo. I use my Chagrin Valley Soap Bars, I wet the brush with warm water then run it over the soap bar rub it well and repeat until all the makeup is out of the brush then rinse it very well in warm water. I give my brushes an ACV rinse to make them shiny and soft then rinse them well with warm water. Blot them dry with paper towels and leave them out to air dry or sometimes I use the blow dryer on them.
Many times people forget to wash their brushes and if you use sponges they should be washed more often.

Thanks for the reminder! I just washed mine last weekend, so they're due in a few days. I use diluted shampoo in a container of water, and then diluted conditioner on them, then rinse rinse rinse. Also, the my honey child conditioner makes the brushes really soft. And they smell good too, instead of like wet hair. :sweatdrop:

And don't forget that soaking your brushes is not a good idea. It loosens the glue that holds the hairs in the barrel of the brush, leading to massive shedding. :gurn:

Oh thanks for starting this thread. I just got a free gift from the Clinique counter today, with purchase of course ($35) and it included a small brush set!
I'll make sure to keep them clean!!!!

Yeah, my face has a way of reminding me it's time to clean the brushes again by giving me a new crop of zits that pop up.

Thanks for the reminder! I just cleaned mine a couple days ago when I got some mineral makeup samples to try and wanted to start with a fresh brush. But I definitely don't do it nearly often enough. I use a little Dr. Bronner's baby castile soap.

I clean mine a couple of times a month. Some of the brushes are synthetic, and those I only wash with shampoo, but the natural bristle ones I use conditioner on too!:lafhard: Might be time for another cleaning tonight, now that I think about it.

Great reminder! I clean mine regularly, and moreso if I switch blush or shadow shades.

Yes, and also be sure to clean them between each new kind of mineral makeup you are trying out--especially if you have allergies!

I cleaned my brushes this week for the first time in I don't know how long. I used some Kiehls shampoo that was handy and some Serious Skin Care Glycolic cleanser that was also handy. I clean them when they get too gunked up to perform. I know I should do it more often but I just don't get around to it. Ya know how that goes.

I try to clean mine when Aunt Flo comes a-callin'. I put them in a coffee cup with a couple of drops of shampoo and take it in the shower with me. When they're clean I roll them in a turbie towel overnight.
I try to wash my sponge every couple of weeks, but I'm overdue. One more thing for the weekend to-do list. :gurn:

Thanks for the tip. When my brushes arrive I'll know how to look after them. I would never have thought to use conditioner.

I cleaned my brushes and sponge for the first time in a long time :sweatdrop: I put a dot of coconut oil on my lipbrush and it helped dissolve the lipstick better (hope that's ok for the brush). After that I washed them in a little J&J shower gel, remolded the bristles and let dry overnight.

Great reminder Suncat, it never fails to surprise me about how many people don't know that they need to wash their makeup brushes. I wash mine about every two weeks in hair shampoo, then I blot them on a face towel to soak up extra moisture. I also dip them in Isopropyl Alchohl for a minute in case any little nasties are still hanging on. Then I let them air dry on their side with the brush end over the sink.
