Hi girls! (Waving to all the old LHC’ers and all the new people)

As you all know I’ve been on a pretty heavy dose of medicine recently and have been pretty messed up
The thing is, my red friend was supposed to come over for a visit last Friday, but… nothing… The usual signs were there… Grumpiness, cravings and a very short fuse with BF, but no menstruation

It’s usually there on time, so today I took a pregnancy test that came out negative
The medicine inlay notes mentioned nothing about birth control pills or anything (And I’m pretty sure it isn’t menopause!)

So now I’m all weirded out. What’s going on?
I’d appreciate any help or support!

If you've been on meds, I wouldn't be surprised at all if you just skipped a period. I had surgery in January and skipped one. It's not dangerous to skip just one period, it happens to a lot of women.

Still, if you're worried you might want to wait a couple of weeks and take another preg test. Better safe than sorry, you know.

ETA: Doh! I forgot to say hi! It's good to have you here.:innocent:

I know some medications, particularly antibiotics, can cancel out the effect of contraceptive pills.

Use some type of back-up birth control for as long as you are on the extra medications, just to be safe. If Aunt Flo hasn't visited in the next couple of weeks, maybe redo the pregnacy test.

Otherwise, good luck!

Thank you girls

I guess I’ll just have to wait and see…. I have another doctor’s appointment tomorrow, maybe I should ask there…

You would think it was something they would mention on the package, right? Sure I knew it too, but since they didn’t write it I just assumed that that type of penicillin didn’t have that effect. You’d really think it was one of those things that would get them sued…:lafhard:

One would hope that they'd lable it...

From what I remember reading, I thought you were on several different medications at once for this. Who knows what the combined effect is? :petrified:

If your doctor knows you're on BCP, he/she would have to tell you beforehand. And as far as I know, it has to be on the list of side effects that comes in the box.

Nothing to add here that hasn't already been said. Big hugs and a big welcome. :grinhappy:

Hmm you got a point there…
The problem is…

…That I have been put on different medication from my doctors and the dermatological ward. I highly doubt anyone have sat down and went over the list. Hmmm

I’m pretty confident the test was accurate though…

But I must admit I’m rather freaked out… and I’m not so sure on how to react to BF’s poorly disguised enthusiasm when my period didn’t come :purplex:

Edit: Stephanie! You sneaked in while I wasn’t looking :soppy: Its been forever! I missed seeing you around! :flower:

Igor, I had something similar happen to me in my mid-twenties. Missed period, negative pregnancy tests. I called my gyno and it turned out I had a progesterone imbalance. He had me take progesterone for a bit and my cycle was back to normal the next month. HTH and {{{{hugs}}}}. :grinhappy:

This can also happen as a result of stress, or major lifestyle change. (Vacation, new city or job -- the body is a mysterious thing, and sometimes doesn't take much to change the balance.)

Your doctor will have suggestions, and possibly tests. Good luck.

Hi Igor
If you are taking BCP, I still find it odd that you would not get your "friend" even if on other meds. (just my personal experience with meds, I have no medical basis for this comment)
On the other hand, those preg tests are very sensitive, and it is not like you took it too early so that it wouldnt show up.
Awhile back, the same thing happened to me, but I wasnt taking BCP at the time. BUT, my period is always ALWAYS on time (has been since I got it!!) so i took the preg test and it came out negative, but i didnt believe it. So i went to my doctors and she was reluctant to even do another test because of the accuracy of the OTC tests. She did do another one, and it was negative as well. I got my period almost 10 days late, which never happens to me.
So, I would doubt that you are pregnant, therefore it must be a result of the meds, or stress.
I would definitely see your doctor though. I'm sure it will make you feel alot better!
