I know this has been discussed in depth over at LHC, but I happened to choose THIS week to try CO, and cannot search for answers. I have read the couple of CO threads that have been started here, but I still have questions.
I used VO5 Free Me Freesia and ended up with WONDERFUL hair and a clean scalp. I like every thing about CO, except that it makes my scalp itch. It is not horrible, but I was wondering how long this will keep up?
I rinsed quite well, but I suppose I could always try more. What worked for you guys and how long did you have to put up with itching?
Thanks,

I had the most itching with conditioners that didn't agree with me, Free Me Freesia being one of them. Not rinsing well was the other culprit. I'd experiment with different conditioners (brands and "flavors") to find the best fit.

So I don't have to itch? I thought it was kind of a rite of passage.
I'll try some other "flavors". I bought quite a few of the VO5 brand. If none of them feel better on my scalp, I'll move on to another brand.
Thanks, icydove.

From what I have read a little itch is pretty normal at first. I did this and what helped was rinsing better. Also after a couple of weeks it went away. I also pretty much CO every day, when I go a few days my scalp itches still. It is not terrible though. I think if it was really bad I would consider I was allergic to that particular type.

Thanks for responding Curlsgirl. I remember you had this problem and my first thought was to read your journal or search your posts and see how you handled it.
I will start with rinsing longer and using something other than Free Me Freesia.
Thanks!

I never stopped itching with CO, so I stopped doing CO.

Yikes! Not good news, but still something to consider. Thanks for your input.

I have found that conditioners with protein, when used for CO, make me itch like mad. You may find specific ingredients bother you. I don't think itching has to be a rite of passage, but it does take some time to figure out how to wash/rinse properly, for you. And as Shell said, CO simply doesn't work for some people. I think it takes 2 to 4 weeks, using various conditioners and techniques (little conditioner, lots, Curly Girl-style, LHC-style) to give it a fair try. Good luck :)

I think you are very right about certain ingredients bothering some people. After much trial and error, I have found that water-only is the best thing for my face. A touch of shea butter on the dry patches and I'm set. I also use water-only in the shower as well. And here is the biggest "clue" of all, my scalp really loved water-only and even no-water-at-all. Dealing with funny looking hair was not so great, but my scalp was in heaven!
Maybe it was silly of me to think that using conditioner would be a good idea for my scalp. hmm.
Thanks everyone, for your helpful comments. I'm going to think about this further.

I had itchies with a keratin conditioner... I simply switched.
