I just heard on our 10Pm local news....A gas drilling rig has unearthed (in the long tedious process) a Giant Colombian Wooly Mammoth , 40 miles north of Casper, Wyoming.:lafhard:

He's reported to be huge, the biggest one yet. They are estimating his shoulders were 14 feet across and his weight would have been about 18,000 pounds!

That's all I heard, but I saw Casper College out there helping with the dig and it is awesome!

I know dinosaurs have been unearthed in Wyoming, down near Medicine Bow. There is a little house (http://www.medicinebow.org/fossilcabin.htm)there made ENTIRELY of excavated dinosaur bones. Here's another link (http://www.wyomingtalesandtrails.com/bonewars2.html)if you are interested in dinosaurs.

Yup, twice. The Virginian Hotel (http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.medicinebow.org/virginian/images/hotel1.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.medicinebow.org/virginian/gallery1.htm&h=188&w=298&sz=19&hl=en&sig2=K6y9F5XXojn2wKMNsaApjw&start=15&tbnid=8IMUdew5krCZfM:&tbnh=70&tbnw=111&ei=LeiQRK-VIcSCiAG894n5Bg&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dmedicine%2Bbow%2Bhotel%26svnum%3D10%2 6hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26sa%3DN)in Medicine Bow was used in the television western show 'The Virginian', starring James Drury and Doug McClure. The dinosaur house is about 6 miles from there.

I'm sure they won't let us on the site, but after they get him out and taken to the college, he'll probably be on display. We have a great dinosaur museum at the college.:lafhard:

Oh! 'The Virginian'! They don't make shows like that anymore...

My bad....
All I can think of when I hear "Wooly Mammoth" is:

I love creating toys with that material. Hopefully my supplier will send me some more pieces to work with soon. :)

I went to the a mammoth exhibition in Braunschweig, Germany a couple of months ago. The "star" exhibit was a tiny little baby mammoth called Dima. He had injured his leg and couldnīt walk very fast, so he and his mommy stayed behind the rest of the herd. As the herd crossed a river little Dima fell into a mudpool and couldnīt free himself because of his injured leg. His mommy couldnīt free him, either, and so she sat beside him and watched him die two endless days and nights. He sank deeper and deeper into the mud, until all that still showed was the tip of his tiny little trunk. Then he sank even deeper, and that was the end of him. The mud preserved him until he was excavated some years ago.

I have no idea how the scientists can possibly know all that, but it was so sad just to think of it. You had to pick up a kind of telephone receiver to hear the story, and you heard a baby mammoth call in the background... I nearly cried.

You can see Dima here (http://www.klimaundmensch.de/htcms/de/ausstellung-1/exponate.html). Heīs the third from the left in the top row.

Oh I like that blue fork! Gorgeous.

How cool is that! I love that kind of stuff. I've been to that house. It's very interesting to say the least.

BTW, if anyone makes it out there, the Medicine Bow area is one of the most beautiful place in the US.
