View Full Version : AVC *right* after baking soda wash

Well, it seemed a good idea at the time... I did a baking soda wash (baking soda in water scrubbed on scalp) and decided, instead of water rinsing then the ACV rinse, I would do an AVC rinse right away. It bubbled so nicely and I was reminded of the scrubbing bubbles bathroom cleanser commercial. I could imagine all the yucky stuff on my hair being bubbled away.

Then I got to thinking OMG what have I done?

So what did I do? I didn't lose any more hairs than usual when I washed it this way; did the reaction between the baking soda and the ACV do something unspeakable to my hair?

Thoughts? :stress:

I think I did that once. My hair's still firmly attached to my head, so you should be fine. Your description, however, made me giggle.

Yow! That sounds drying! You may have dried your hair out a bit but I doubt that you did any serious, long-term damage. I wouldn't panic. I think your hair will be fine. If it is a bit dry, a nice SMT or two will probably set it to rights. :grinhappy:

I was actually cleaning it to do an aloe/coconut oil deep treament with heat. I didn't get all the coconut oil out in one CO this morning (I never seem to be able to), but everything seems to be A-OK. :) Thanks!

I've actually always wanted to do that... I think the bubblies would feel awfully good.

Ooh...that sounds interesting... I don't think the hair was affected, it's just neutralisation.

I've done that. It produced a smell that gave me a headache though. Wait....were you afraid all of your hair would fall off? Only on LHC do we worry about the effects of fourth-grade science fair volcanos on our head......

Well, apparently you had a reaction ;-)

You know, I can see how it would seem like a good idea at the time. :) I honestly think you haven't done anything that a good conditioner can't take care of.

Thank you so much for your delightful description, and don't worry. :flower:

Your hair will be fine, not to worry. You just recreated junior high school - acid (ACV) + base (baking soda) = volcano science project. :)

Thank you so much for your delightful description, and don't worry. :flower:I highlighted the part of Franny's reply that I think is so true. We get so worried about our hair we forget that a good conditioning can solve many many hair woes. You may have dried your hair out a bit but a nice rich SMT treatment should take care of it.
