I have been trying to (safely) recreate 18th century make up using MMU for my actress persona. So far I have a suitable white paint and red paint, but they are applied by getting a finger full of pomade and then some powdered paint (in my case MMU) and rubbing it on the face. I have had to cut enough corners accuracy wise to not be putting lead and such on my face, so I would like to use a period recipe for this. On the site most of my research is from, there is this recipe for a pomade that looks safe to me.

http://www.marquise.de/en/1700/kosmetik_3.shtml

(it is at the bottom of the page)

My questions are: Do you think it looks safe? Also, do you think I would break out uber badly from only wearing it on one weekend?

Thanks for any imput!

I think you'll be okay with the pomade.

Just in case you didn't know- cetyl alcohol or jojoba oil can be substituted for the spermaceti in the recipe. Good luck! :flower:
