View Full Version : Filling in/drawing on eyebrows

Does anyone else have to do this every time they wear makeup? Even though my hair is brown, my eyebrows are blonde and have a 'barely there' quality (if you can call it that!) I quite like that I can always have perfectly formed eyebrows cos I've drawn them...but it's such a pain in the behind! And sometimes I wonder if it's really obvious and I actually look like a clown...:boggle:

Darn it, I remember Kissedbyfyre putting up these awesome instructions on the photo board of LHC, but I'm not sure you can get to it!:pissed:
http://www.alopeciaareata.com/kids/teen-wear-001.asp This link had pretty good instructions too.
But yeah, I've got those eyebrows too. The nice thing about them is that you never have to tweeze!:whoohoo: I usually just go for a bit of reddish brown eyeshadow, because it sticks to my natural brows. No one ever notices. ;)

Oh, I have those no-see-um's, too! I hate it! I've tried dying them, but it doesn't seem to help all that much (they just look like not-so-thick, slightly darker eyebrows).
I use the same eyeshadow on my eyebrows that I use to line my eyes. Stila Espresso is my perfect ash brown tone. Fits perfectly with my cool/neutral tone complexion and hair. I apply it damp after I apply it to my eyes. Great control with a tapered liner brush and looks very natural.
I so wish I didn't feel like I had to do them everyday. Even when I'm wearing absolute bare minimum makeup, my eyebrows are done.

I have to color in my eyebrows or you can't see them.

Another light-haired eyebrower here! ;) It annoys me because I just learned how to make mascara look natural and then realised that my eyebrows still look odd! :sob:

I find that the older I get, the lighter and more sparse my brows become. I used stencils and powder colour and gel for a long time, to get the shape and fullness right. Now, I have a pretty good shape and I just use the powder and gel.
Eyebrows are a giant PITA, but if you don't do them, you just don't look finished.~~sigh~~

My haircolor is in the light brown/dark blonde range, but my eyebrows are much lighter than my hair. I have done countless things to them over the years... from filling them in, to having them tinted. For the most part, I leave them be. If I'm going out somewhere fancy, I might fill them in with a bit of light taupe eyeshadow (using a brush); otherwise, they are what they are (with the help of a little tweezing, of course).

I've been a member of LHC for a few years now so I'm well aware of KBF  and it's not that I can't draw them (I think I'm quite a dab hand at makeup, even if I do say so myself :sweatdrop: ) it's just frustrating having to bloody draw them in all the freaking time *sigh*
you're lucky to not have to tweeze! The main body of my eyebrows are blonde but all the strays are brown!!! how annoying is that??
I'm glad I'm not the only one with annoying brows...we should should start a club! The 'Barely there brows' club woo!

My brows are visible, but considerably lighter than my hair. They're kind of like the color of charcoal brickettes (sp?) after they've been used. I used to use a charcoal grey brow pencil to fill them in, but recently started using a mink brown powder. It's much less of a pain to fill eyebrows in using powder - you have more control, can lighten it if you get it too dark, and a little bit really goes a long way!:whoohoo:

I'll check in here as a member of the barely there brows club.
They are much lighter than my hair and have a little bald patch right in the middle, they have always been like that.
I went once to see if they could be shaped to look a bit nicer and the yucky woman said "but darling, you have no eyebrows - how can I shape what is not there?"
So I keep my fringe long enough to cover them!!

I'm another one with barely there eyebrows. My hair was light blonde when I was a child. My hair got darker as I aged but my brows stayed the same. If I don't color them I look bald, like I shaved them off. I use a blonde eyebrow pencil, I don't want them real dark, but eyebrows seem to be necessary, at least to my face.:puppy:

I am a barely-there eyebrow club member, too, if you'll have me. They're sparse, they're light, they (the few hairs that ARE there) seem to want to grow with plenty of elbow-room between hairs (as opposed to just all gathering in a nice line-shaped area)... I pencil those bad boys in every morning. I use a brown pencil (hard to find one that doesn't seriously lean towards RED, so I use an eyeliner pencil) and then take the backside of that eyelash-comb and BRUSH them a bit to soften the lines and make it appear more natural.
*I* think it looks good; egads, I hope so. You know those women who wear makeup in such a fashion that you wonder what they're SEEING when they use the mirror? Well, I fear that they probably think they look STUNNING (thinking Tammy Faye Baker here, you know "the look") but in reality they're totally overdone and have Joan Crawford Eyebrows that are stark black and look TOTALLY made-up, and the lips are too wild to be human, and the eyelashes are totally out of control as well. So, I'm HOPING that my "that looks natural" is inDEED a natural look and not just a Lisa-delusion version of Tammy Faye looking in the mirror saying "Dang, I look hot!"

I seem to be unable to edit, so I'll add here: Merry, that wretched woman should have been smacked upside the head with a baseball bat for saying such a thing to you. I hope you tipped her a PENNY.

Another one with see through eyebrows. I get enough hair below them to make up for it though. So not only do I have to draw them in I have to pluck all their friends from my eyelids! DH says all the hairs on my lids look like they are trying to escape from my brows. Very nice. I just use a rusty brown color eyeshadow and a wedge brush and I am good to go.
It is a bit of a pain really.

I do now that I quit using chemical dyes. I don't know if it's possible to dye brows with henna and indigo but I'm not willing to live with red brows just in case it doesn't work...so I use an angle brush and BE liner-shadow to make them a bit darker. I try to avoid the solid black look. Even with black hair, it's a bit much.
ETA: My brows are naturally medium-thick and dark but they're also reddish and since I now dye my hair black, they look funny when they're naked. I have to "do" them every day.

Same here! My eyebrows are brown, but they've been plucked a little too much over the years. :purplex:

Catia dyes hers with henna! I don't remember if she adds indigo (I want my LHC!:stress:), but they look pretty dark.

Sorry, LJ - I just had to edit it that way! :lafhard:
I am with you in the hairs that don't want to grow right tight together. I overplucked in 8th grade, and the poor brows never recovered. I can still follow their basic shape, tho, so part of my essential makeup is brow powder. I prefer the powder over the pencil, because it's easy to adjust or smudge if I overdo it. Just a light brushing, maybe a Q-tip rubbed on some spots I overshot, and it's all good.

My eyebrows are light too, kind of a light brown color and very fine. The hair on my head is so dark I feel that my eyebrows almost disappear amongst the contrast unless I play them up a little. I like to use a dark brown eye pencil, and sometimes a smidge of brown eye shadow for more staying power.
Wish I didn't have to fool with it, but I just don't look right without them. Good brows can make such a huge difference. :whoohoo:

I'm not sure if this idea was already posted, I didn't read every post. But I tend to be over-zealous with the plucking. I use a toothbrush (non-used of course!) to shape them when I do my makeup. I use a brown eyeliner and very lightly pencil in where I need it. Then I use the toothbrush again, to shape and to lighten up the line you get and it doesn't look obvious at all. HTH

Sephora sells an eyebrow kit by ANASTASIA which is the absolute holy grail of eyebrow kits. It comes with stencils and everything! I bought it before I lost my eyebrows and I dont know what I would do without it. Eyebrow pencils dont really do as good a job as the powders that this kit contains. It also has a setting wax and a brow bone highlighter. I think it costs around $35.

Yup, everyday. And I conceal my undereye circles everyday. I didn't wear makeup one day, and even though I'd had a full night's sleep and wasn't tired, I got about 10 comments that day about how I shouldn't stay up so late.
It doesn't help much that they are naturally thin, short, flat, and have scars on both of them right where my arch should be. *sigh* I blame my mother for not covering the fireplace when I was a child. lol

i feel extremely lucky to have really dark eyebrows, that don't even need tons of plucking. i don't really need make up but as a perfectionist i do like to add a bit of powder here and there ... my absolute fave eyebrow palette is chanel's: it has three shades in very natural tints (relatively cool tones that is, no bizare warm reddish stuff). i use all three shades, going darker outwards.

I have always had very full dark eyebrows and I never plucked them. Over the years they have thinned a little but I have always done my brows. I use a brow trimmer for the stray hairs and use MMU applied with a small stiff brush to fill in the sparse areas and cover the few white hairs that have suddenly appeared in the last few years  I just don't feel right if my brows aren't done.

I have dark, coarse and long eyebrow hairs that are a bit sparse, but want to grow everywhere! I've been plucking and trimming them for years (or is it decades! eek!), but only recently started pencilling them in. It was a revelation! Now, with just a MMU base, blusher and eyebrow pencil, my whole face looks well groomed.
I use a cheap brow pencil, Boots 17, which is soft but not greasy and has a little brush on the cap.

Good for you, Merry! I am so envious of you good-eyebrowed people; a good brow DOES make all the difference. My sons all got Dave's nice eyebrows (I'd LOVE to have Dave's eyebrows!) with beautiful arches and they don't grow together in the center like some men's eyebrows do, and if they were MINE, all I'd have to do is pluck a few hairs on the browbone itself, on the outer half of the eyebrow. It's criminal. And my oldest son has LOTS of eyelashes that are about a yard long. Darn! Why do the MEN always get the best eye-area hair?

Why do the MEN always get the best eye-area hair? ha! although i shouldn't complain about my own lashes, my brother's are still longer  - luckily there's mascara to cheat :whoohoo:
