Hey, everybody! Have any of you had good luck with fixing holey jeans? I have a pair of jeans that I really love, and I wore a hole through the knee. I'm ok with the hole, so I don't want to put a patch over it, but I don't want it to spread and ruin the pants. How do I keep my knee hole "contained?" I've been thinking I should just sew around it with my sewing machine a couple times, but I don't know if it'll really help or not. What do you think?

You've got the right idea. Go for a zigzag seam, that'll weave the loose threads together better than a regular straight seam would. I would still go for a sparkly, star-shaped patch, though... I like crafts!

Thanks, eyiela! There's a smaller hole on the thigh of the other leg. A star would look pretty cute over there! I'll try the zig-zag stitch! It'll be so great not to have to throw them out!

A patch doesn't look bad if you put it on the inside, rather than the outside, and it looks kind of neat if you use a bright color or something too.

I second stitching around the edges...i like a few well worn holes sometimes too:grinhappy:

My mom uses those iron on patches for LB12's jeans. The patch goes on the inside, so you can still see the rip from the outside, but keeps it from fraying more. Of course, I'd go with a bright red plaid outside patch, if they were mine. :lafhard:

I say go for a bright happy patch with bright happy thread and make it really obvious it's patched...then it looks all pretty :grinhappy:
Of course I'm a nerd/geek (:geek: ) so you might want to not listen to me :whyme:

I usually put a couple of lines of stitching around a hole or do a bunch of crisscrossing lines over the hole + patch. Not quite as nice as a happy star, but it works.

You could also use an old piece of denim behind the hole, patched from the inside. It would be much more stealthy and still kind of look like a hole, especially if you leave the fringy bits on the outside.

This is what I do but zig zag around the edges. The patch just blends right in.

I say to go for the fun patch! Then put a similar patch on the other hole. Then put a couple more elsewhere, as if the jeans were designed that way. It'll be like having a new pair of jeans! :eureka:
