I love the Recipes, Henna, and Herbal Haircare (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=21) section of the LHC. I learned so much from that section. I know my hair is healthier and I am saving a lot of money as well.
I would love to have a similar post about skin care. I have read some topics. I am wondering if I have missed any recipes.
My favourite facial scrub is placing a couple of squirts of Cetaphil gentle skin cleaner into the palm of my hand then adding some baking soda. Mix it up and scrub away. It works well for me and much cheaper then the commercial ones I was using.
I am interested to hear what you like?

Oh! Ill play!
One of my favorite things to make at home for my skin is a face mask with aloe, shea butter and avacado. The smells are a bit weird together but it leaves my skin feeling so soft! Its great for after shaving, too. Unfortunately, avacados are kinda expensive and when I get them I want to eat them... so, I dont do this often.
I also like to mix up my own body moisturizer using a bit of my regular lotion (usually Jegens cocoa butter lotion because it smells so good) and throw in a bunch of random butters, oils, and whatever else I feel like. I like to use shea and coconut oil on my skin but they stay greasy for a while. Mixing them up this way makes it soak in faster.

I make a body scrub using sesame oil with table salt, and if I felt like I add some perfume oil to make it smell nice.
It is actually a perfect body scrub, nothing else worked as good for me. I shower as usual and then use the scrub all over and then only rinse, it leave my body extra smooth and moisturised.

I love the aspirin mask. There are a few different "recipes" but this is the one I use.
I dissolve 8-10 cheap aspirin in a little bit of water. Then I add in enough honey to be able to mix it up and have it adhere to my face.
I wash my face with a gentle cleanser first, otherwise the oil seems to block the exfoliating effects of the aspirin.
Then, I spread the aspirin/honey mixture all over my face and neck (I avoid my eyes, except I do try to get up underneath as far as I can without getting it INTO my eyes.) Then, I let it sit at least 10 minutes.
I've left it on as long as an hour before (got a big phone call) and had no problems with it. Considering that I have pretty sensitive skin and rosacea, that's a big deal!
Then, I rinse off in the shower and enjoy my soft skin :)
I can't remember who first made this up, but I love them for it!

I still love my facial serum. I use Red Raspberry Seed, Borage Seed and Grapeseed oils and mix in essential oils that work for my skintype. It has taken a bit of trial and error, but I finally have it down. I was switching back and forth to my Philosophy, but I think I am staying with my home concocted serum. I never have breakouts or oily skin from it. My skin is oily and thick, but looks radiant with this serum. I love to use it in tandem with CV complexion soaps and Burt's Bees toners. My face is so smooth in the morning when I wake up. The oils I use are chocked full of vitamins and minerals and acids that aid the skin.
I use either brown sugar or just plain granulated sugar for a face and body scrub. I like the way it disappears after being used and washes safely down the drain.

Asprin mask! I use a few tablets, dissolve in a few drops water, and then use aloe vera and honey. Apply to the face, let dry about 10-15 mins, rinse off in circular motions.
Love that stuff!

I love using my grandma's recipe. At 90, people think she's in her 60's!
Honey
Sugar
Lemon juice
Olive oil
I really don't know the proportions...I add more sugar if I want a grainier scrub and less if I don't. I use a wash cloth to remove any residue from my face.
I use this for my face and body and it's wonderful to step out of the shower and already be smooth! I have also noticed that it's like a mini manicure/pedicure if you really scrub!

One of my favorite treats is just like desert flower said, makes a great scrub and works as a light moisturizer too.
I also make my own face mask for my t-zone out of -
French clay (any facial clay will work)
Rose petal powder
Orange peel powder
And a tiny bit of hibiscus powder
If im oily but my skin id feeling extra sensitive i put in some fine ground oats too.
I make lotion bars for body and extra creamy ones for feet and hands. Also bath melts and bath bombs. My next experiments are cream/lotion and solid deoderant (all natural of coarse :) )

a good mask for dry skin is mashed up bananas. you just mash up a banana and rub it on your face and leave it there for about 5 minutes before rubbing it off. the potassium is amazing for your skin and really moisturizes and smoothes it. in addition, it also tightens the thin skin under your eyes to help prevent wrinkles. another home tip for dry skin is rubbing some olive oil on your skin-it makes it soo smooth! thats what a lot of african american models do during the winters b/c they're skin is more sensitive to harsh winds and temperatures. (i read it in seventeen :) ) and....neutrogena acne wash pink grapefruit scrub would be perfect for you! the microbeads in it rub away dry, flaky skin while the medication for acne in it helps your skin. plus it smells good :) and...drink losta water!! its amazing for your skin (making it smooth and dewey) and helps clean out your digestive system, improving your metabolism. cardio exercise is also good for quick, fat burning weigh loss. and a cool make-up tip is using deep purple/violet eyeliner. it makes most eye colors pop .
btw thats a good resolution! :)

I just mentioned this is another thread but late last night before bed I applied mashed-up raspberries on my cleansed damp face and rinsed off after 10 mins. I was a bit worried in case it had dyed my skin pink (!! could this happen??) but fortunately it was OK. After I noticed my skin felt firmer. This was probably only temporary, but it felt good.
It was just before bedtime and I wanted to make sure my skin reaped the benefits overnight too so I took a tiny bit of the juice (1-2 teaspoons), mixed it in an equal amount of water (plain old tap water!) and applied it to my skin like a toner. I didn't use a moisturiser, but my skin doesn't always need it at night.
Explanation: when I apply any sort of moisturising/nourishing mask I like there to be a tiny bit of residue on my face afterwards so the skin can benefit. I don't like to always wash it all away, if that makes sense. Hence the 'toner' idea.
Possibly there could be skin sensitivity issues here for some people but my skin is quite tolerant, and liked it. Yay!:lafhard:

try and feel the difference.I don't see how aloe vera and lemon juice could possibly make a paste. Both are runny, watery substances. Is there something else you add to thicken it up?

Besides, things I use have to dry in five minutes or less. That is about the time I can go without oxygen. I usually do two different masks, one a clay with lemon and mint, they other one a creamy green one that dries white to let you know it's ready to wash off. I take a break inbetween the two and have some oxygen, kinda like a cocktail, LOL. Then I use a gentle toner, and apply some Neutrogena moisturizer with SPF and it's lightly tinted.

My favorite is simple. MCT oil. It's all the good stuff extracted from virgin coconut oil. It's the lightest, most moisturizing oil I've ever used and I use it EVERYwhere. Currently...it's soaking into my hair. :D
As far as more complex things go, sometimes less is more. I love my sunflower seed oil and castor oil with a few drops of rose oil oil cleansing blend.
