View Full Version : Official Tribu GO

Please note that there is no actual group discount on offer. It’s simply a chance to buy a hairtoy from the UK using PayPal. The postage fees are £1.24 for Europe and £1.64 for North America (up to 100g), but I might need to add a few pence for packing materials (depending on how many people place orders).
This is the Tribu wooden hairtoy page (http://www.tribu.co.uk/shop_html/order_template.php?group=HAIRSTICKS) (‘select another material’ to see Zamac sticks). They haven’t listed the item lengths, so I’ve measured the ones I own:
http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c131/jel_sher/100_2661.jpg
Fork – 6.25”, inner prong length 3.75”
Swirly stick – 7.25”, usable 5.25”
Short stick – 4.75”, usable 4-4.25”
Tapered stick – just under 6.75”
See the original thread (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=4733) on LHC for some other examples.
I’m proposing the 3rd of June (edited date) as the closing date for this GO. Once I have the number of orders I’ll know whether I’ll need to buy more packing materials and will update the list with full prices. Please note that I can accept payment in British Pounds through funded PayPal Balance, Instant Bank Transfer or eCheque, but not credit/debit card funded payments.
I will be buying the items in person, all at once, and could have them on their way within a day or so of purchase. The delivery should take 3-5 days.

Hi Jel -- good for you! Thank you!
I would like one of the shell sticks -- Shiva's Eye. The kind with the mushroom top with silver bits (http://www.tribu.co.uk/shop_html/order_template.php?group=HAIRSTICKS&mat=WOOD&pn=HRSTK_R04_SHV_SILDOT&clear=) is my fave, but I realize not all styles may be available the day you're shopping, so another would also be fine.
And thanks!

No problem! You are aware that the mushroom-top sticks are short, aren't you?

Shorter than the others with the shell top?
If so, I'll change to one of the regular sticks with the shell -- your choice which one.
Thanks, jel!

Question: Anyone have an idea of the weight of the Zumac Matik pierced dangle earrings? I have LOTS of trouble with my ears and can't wear heavy earrings, but these are so fine!
Also, love the wood earrings, but have never had to deal with a wood "post" before. Does it ever splinter? Is the wood treated, so as not to absorb moisture? (I tend to develop "seep-y" ears if the posts/wires aren't absolutely hypoallergenic)
Jel, thank you so very much for offering to do this for us! Hope I don't make your job any more difficult than it is - with this in mind, do you want us to have "priority" lists? Say, "if this isn't available, then buy this instead?"
Or are you planning on running in and checking out the available items lots of times until what we're seeking shows up?! ;o) (Were I you, I'd opt for the list of "instead-ofs!")
jel
May 22nd, 2008, 09:14 AM
I'm afraid I don't know about their earrings, Peggy.
Priority lists would be useful, if you want your stuff quickly! :D I usually visit Camden Market every 3-4 weeks or so, and I could check again at the end of June... But what if they haven't got it then either? July?

I made up my mind :D Going to order this one image (http://www.tribu.co.uk/products/hrstk_r04_mal_sildot_w.jpg) Which is on this page here (http://www.tribu.co.uk/shop_html/order_template.php?group=HAIRSTICKS&mat=WOOD&pn=HRSTK_R04_MAL_SILDOT&clear=) Costs £15 + £1.24 shipping to Netherlands, paying for that with funded PayPal :)
The short stick in your image, malachite :)

You can order any - it's just that I've never noticed* the metal ones, so haven't a faintest idea of how long or heavy they are.
*That doesn't mean they were not there, it's just that I tend to latch to the first thing I see and then close my eyes so I'm not tempted to spend even more... ;)

I *need* a mushroom topped stick with Malachite
I can pay with funded Paypal or bank transfer. But there is no option to pay with Pounds with bank transfer, only Euro, so not sure about that. It would be nice to avoid Paypal fees, though.

Anja, I don't know how that would work as I don't have a Euro bank account. But PayPal currency exchange fees are not that extortionate as far as I'm aware, and the strong Euro is in your favour anyway!

Thanks, jel! Oh -- and by "regular", I mean the others with shells, but I think those are all the same length... The long ones are the plain wood, but that's not what I want; I like the ones with lots of silver and the shells/stones.
Here's an idea -- how about two sticks that are somewhat similar in the silver work, one with a shell and one with malachite? As before, your choice of exact details.
Then I could wear them as a non-matched pair, if the single was too short to hold any other style than a tight bun! (My hair is basically like velcro; takes very little to hold it, as long as I'm prepared to wrap it tightly. Loose or draped? Well, that's another story. Many pins required.)
I can pay PayPal, funded, but my experience is that it's still going to charge you a fee, so when you come to total costs, please confirm and add that or you'll be short a bit.

No, they're not all the same length. There are longer ones with shell/malachite/turquoise tops, but those are not mushroom-like. They are more tapered. I think Levelek has one like that and it's about 6 inches long...

Correct! All the mushroom-topped sticks are short, regardless of the inlay (shell, malachite, turquoise).

Would you like the same length (long or short?), or mismatched? Two the same length -- and longer is best! So no mushroom top for me. (And you're right, I wasn't aware that there were longer ones with the shell and stone inset.)
Well I only have a personal account and it says no fees... I'll have to wait and see then! Sounds good. But let me know if for some reason you get hit with something.

I'll be paying through Paypal on 6/3. Thanks so much for doing this!

AFAIK, as soon as it's a different country, there are fees. We can do a test, so you know for sure before everybody else pays, if you want to.

Good news, everyone! </Professor Hubert Farnsworth mode>
Thanks to Anja, I found out that PayPal are not charging me fees, at least not this time. (There is something in their T&C about setting fees based on the previous month's trade value.)
Also, I was given some second-hand bubble wrap and cardboard to secure the packaging, so I won't need to buy any additional materials.
Therefore, I've calculated the order totals and updated the first post. Feel free to pay any time between now and the third of June, but bear in mind I will not be buying the items before the 4th at the earliest (or when I actually receive all the payments, if later, as PayPal may take some time apparently).

Money's on its way! Weird, the online conversion program showed 8.64 GBP equivalent to $13.45. PayPal decided it was equivalent to $17.57!
However, they DID indicate it as a payment in pounds not dollars, so this is probably the charges you were afraid would be made against you - they're showing up on the payee's account instead!
Such is life, those hair toys are worth every cent, dollar, pound, euro, centavo, ruble whatever they want for them!! ;o)
Thanks again, Jel, for doing this for us. Hope it doesn't turn out to be a lot of work for you.

The Royal Mail website has this (http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/content1?catId=15500181&mediaId=15500190)to say about international deliveries. I suppose if there's no sign of it at your end (or mine) by the end of the time period they quote, I'll submit a claim and get you another stick. I sincerely hope it's just delayed!
Fingers crossed it arrives soon!

Thank you! thank you! thank you! so very, very much for doing this for us, Jel! The two sticks are just great and I love them - you did a great job and I can't believe you were able to get exactly what I was wanting.
I figured I'd be making a substitution or taking a long time in waiting - which I would have been happy to do, simply to have the opportunity to purchase from them.
Both arrived quickly and in fine shape - one happy broad on this side of the big puddle, I'll tell 'ya! ;o)
eta: I can't recall the exact date on which they arrived, but I'm thinking it probably was within the 5-day royal mail estimation. I've worn them both, so it's been a few days, for sure! Sorry I didn't take note immediately - NEXT time I will (hint-hint!!)
