View Full Version : GOs to Australia - generic thread for getting organised

Rae~
March 21st, 2008, 06:01 PM
I have a couple of items (various sources) I'd love to order, but we all know the deal - shipping costs etc etc - and I've held off. So, I thought I'd start a thread here, and people could indicate interest in a possible item, make suggestions etc.

Each time we get a critical mass of enough people, we can spin off a proper thread for that GO, but I thought this could be the core thread to watch/subscribe to (if you so wish) so that you know when a new one is started.

Sound good?

(Naturally, this is not EXCLUSIVELY for Aussies, but there would be very few countries where it sould be beneficial to participate in the GO, then pay for it to be forwarded on... maybe just New Zealand.)

And, to start, I'll register interest in possible GOs to:

- Etta Mae on etsy (http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5268804) (which is LHC Pookatrina)
- Ficcare (http://www.ficcare.com/)

(I only want one item from each so when ordering alone, the shipping really makes that one item expensive!)

Oooh I'm definitely interested!! Especially Etta Mae - I was only just looking at her forks yesterday and bemoaning the cost of shipping.

I'd also be interested in Ketylo at some stage - though if I remember correctly, shipping may not be so bad from them.

Rae~
March 21st, 2008, 07:11 PM
Cool! I am actually much more keen to do an Etta Mae order than a Ficcare one anyway.

Hopefully there might be others interested as well. :)

ETA: Do you have a link for Ketylos? I can't seem to find one on my link list, although I know I've seen them before...

Rose_Red

Ketylo's homepage: http://www.ketylo.com/servlet/StoreFront

Rae~
March 21st, 2008, 11:50 PM
Oh, d'oh. For some reason I was thinking ketylos were sold through a website with a name OTHER than "ketylo". Der.

Thanks, RR. :)

I'm interested in either as well as interested in hair ringz (http://www.hairingz.com/ExtendedProducts.asp) and heavenly harvest too.

I was going to wait until the spring/autumn sale for a ficcare which shouldn't be too far in the future Rae~ ;)

I'm interested too:lafhard:

Count me in, too! (Especially for group discounts - woohoo!) :whoohoo:

Rae~
March 22nd, 2008, 02:03 PM
Liluri - sounds like a plan based on experience! :D I'm in no real rush for the Ficcare order, so that would work well. I just want another large Superclip. And I've never seen those hair ringz before - they look interesting. I couldn't find any details on their site of how big they are, though?

DecafJane & Natasska - woot, more peeps. Cool. Just let us know if you guys are interested in anything in particular. :)

I'm interested in some Ketylos! :)

DecafJane
March 22nd, 2008, 04:24 PM
Preferably etta mae for me - I would love an ebony fork! The postage generally makes me cry.
Although if we got a good discount on ketylos it could be good.

Rae~
March 22nd, 2008, 08:14 PM
I'm going to send a question to Etta Mae about the fork I'm interested in... does anyone else have any questions for her/them?

DecafJane
March 23rd, 2008, 01:41 AM
No. I would probably want to order 2 forks, so I am curious about what the postage would end up being like with the combined order, but that is about it. :)

Rae~
March 23rd, 2008, 02:44 AM
I'll be sure to ask what total shipping would be for, say 4-6 items. :)

AprilElf~

Hello!
I've never done the group order thing before, but at the moment I am interested in aquiring some Ficcare and Ketylo toys. :)
No rush, I can wait for a Ficcare sale, if that's coming up.

Thanks for the PMing me about this, Rae~! :flower:

Thanks for letting us know Rae. :) I would be interested in Ficcare and Etta Mae.

DecafJane
March 23rd, 2008, 05:05 PM
I have been eyeing off the Etta Mae forks and getting rather excited. :whoohoo:
No rush, of course. I'm just enthusiastic. :)

Rae~
March 23rd, 2008, 08:46 PM
OK, so I think we have enough people interested in an Etta Mae (http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5268804) Group Order, to go ahead with it. DecafJane, I'm keen too, but I agree there's no rush, and if people are still undecided then we can certainly take our time. Also, I realise that some people might only check the boards once or twice a week, and we wouldn't want to move too quickly and them miss out.

I also received some great news about costs from Etta Mae, but I'm just waiting for clarification on one point before I pass that info on.

Next question is: What time frame would suit people?

For example, if orders were due in two weeks, so on Monday 7th April, would that be too soon? Thoughts and comments?

Keep in mind that when I receive all the orders, I will need payments at the same time, before I go ahead and order/pay Etta Mae. So, if there is a particular day or week that you know things will be tight, or you'll be really busy, or whatever, then we can arrange it so that we avoid having the GO payments due then as well.

Once we work out a time frame, I will start a separate thread specifically for that GO, so that all info, orders, queries etc can be put there. In the first post, I will include a full explanation of what you'll need to do, when you'll need to pay, how it will all work, blah blah.

ETA: Oh yeah... heh... this all is assuming you are all happy for me to be the organiser for this GO. :grinhappy:

DecafJane
March 23rd, 2008, 11:04 PM
That date is fine by me, but if others need it to be a little later, I am happy to wait, too. :)
I'm a little curious - how would it work if two of us want the same thing, or is something the is selling on her Etsy site actually sells in the meantime? I guess we could let her know close to the date we choose. Her items are all different but a lot are quite similar in style and wood. Sorry for asking if this is obvious - I've not done a group order before. :)
Thank-you for organising this!!!

Rae~
March 23rd, 2008, 11:27 PM
Apparently, the turnaround time for an item is only a few days, so that won't be a problem. Whatever the orders end up being - as an example, the fork I will order is not currently listed in the wood I want - if they don't have the stock on hand at that time, they will make it in just a few days.

DecafJane
March 23rd, 2008, 11:43 PM
Ah, fantastic - so we can do custom orders as well. :)

tigerlily
March 24th, 2008, 11:50 AM
Sounds good. How do you think would be best for us in NZ to pay? (haven't done anything like this before, I buy stuff on trademe, but its just a matter of transfering money to someones bank account)

Rae~
March 24th, 2008, 03:30 PM
I think bank transfer is going to be the easiest way. You might want to check with your bank as to what if any charges there might be, and what information (on top of standard BSB code and account number) they might need? I might need to give you the Swift code as well?

I can PM or email you my bank account details once we get to that point, but in case it makes a difference to the charges, I'm with the Commonwealth Bank.

Rose_Red
March 24th, 2008, 04:11 PM
That date is fine with me, I'm okay waiting a bit as well if it's an issue for people.

And I'm more than happy to have you organising it, Rae :) Would paypal to you also be an option for payment?

Rae~
March 24th, 2008, 05:14 PM
I do have a paypal account, but I've used it to receive money only a couple of times, and I've been caught out before by costs so I will just have to double check what those costs are, as I will have to pass them on. I doubt it's huge, but it does add up.

Rae~
March 24th, 2008, 05:44 PM
OK, so according to the fees page (https://www.paypal.com/au/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_display-fees-outside) on the Paypal site, since I have a Personal account, if you pay from a Paypal account that is funded by a card - either debit or credit - then the fees will be:

- 3.4% plus $0.30 AUD for domestic transactions
- 4.4% plus $0.30 AUD for cross-border transactions*

From what I can see, those would be the only fees, but if anyone more familiar with paypal knows any different, please let me know.

*For payments from NZ using paypal, I would just request that they be send in Australian dollars, please (an option you can select when you go to pay).

Rae~
March 24th, 2008, 07:34 PM
OK, I think I've got all the info together now, so I've posted a thread for the Etta Mae GO here (http://chatter.thebeautybottle.com/showthread.php?p=32419#post32419). I've delayed it by a week compared to what I suggested earlier, just in case some people need time to think. So now you've got 2 1/2 weeks to make up your mind. I'd rather delay it a bit and maybe get more orders - and perhaps a better discount.

There's more info over in the other thread, but just to let everyone know, the group discounts are:
... Up to $100 - 5%
... $101 - 199 - 12%
... $200 - 400 - 20%
... $401 & up - 25%

And if we get over $100, the int'l shipping will be FREE... bonus. :whoohoo:

If you are keen but the dates don't suit, please just post in the other thread - I'm sure we could delay a bit more if need be.

Cheers

I'd suggest the paypal calculator I've done a few transations with no issues this way it has an I want to receive amount that calculates their fees if that helps you :)

I was just thinking, I would LOVE to take part in a Ficcare GO in the next few months, too! I like the look of their products, but at $18 minimum for shipping, it is a bit restrictive.

Me too and if they have their 20% off spring sale it will be really worth while. :)

So I'm wondering if people have read this (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=2648&page=2&highlight=ficcare) thread? Regarding a price rise for Ficcares? I'm wanting some Ficcares, I'm not sure if I should try Headgames or if I should wait until the new catalog is out, with possible higher prices? Anyone else wanting to do an order?

Rae~
May 1st, 2008, 04:05 PM
I did see that, and I'm amazed they don't think this price hike is going to hurt their sales long term? But anyway.... that's not what you asked. :o

I'm less keen than I was before, actually... partly because I just bought a Superclip from the Swap Board, which was pretty much the only item I was planning to order anyway. I would strongly consider getting another one if we were buying under a discount, but I'm less keen at full price... and not sure about dealing with Headgames, either. :/

I guess I'm not really fussed - I don't have enough desire to push forward with an order myself, although I'll watch and see if one happens, and *may* tag along in the end. The price increase kicks in on 05 May, right?

Liluri
May 1st, 2008, 11:01 PM
Yeah May 5th is mentioned as price increase day. I really want a large lavender lotus and a large millenium clip and then I'm done buying Ficcares, but I can't justify the price now, so a price increase isn't going to help. It's avoiding the $18US postage costs as well as the discount that makes it better for me.

May 2nd, 2008, 05:02 AM
Hey Ozzies, if you are planning on a ficcare GO, I'm in. I'm contemplating one purchase right now. They are replacing one defective clip and I am thinking of buying one more, just before the price increase. But if you are seriously thinking of a GO, I won't buy anything.

AprilElf~
May 2nd, 2008, 08:23 PM
I want to get a Ficcare Maximas Clip as some stage. I've never tried one before and I'm very disappointed they are raising their prices. I think they are severely limiting their customer base by doing this.

The organisation of a GO before the price rise probably isn't possible, is it? ... we'd really have to get our skates on! :boggle:
But yes, I would participate in a GO, now or later, if the shipping works out to be beneficial for me.

Otherwise I will wait 3 months and see if I can find one in London when I go there for my holiday. ;)

What are the dates when the order and money are due?

Liluri
May 11th, 2008, 09:04 PM
I've given up on a Ficcare GO atm, just because of the price increase.

But I did email Flexi 8 just to see if they'd do a bulk deal but they'd like to know how many people are interested? I think it depends on what the discount is but I'll ask anyways. Who would be interested in an Australian Flexi 8 GO please? :)

tiny_teesha

AprilElf~

Okay, now that there's a 20% discount code available for Head Games and they are not increasing their prices till 1 June, I think it might be worth risking their dodgy service. (See the discussion at LHC about members' experiences - here (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=4753).)

I know I said before that I was going to wait till my travels to purchase a Ficcare, but this might be too good a deal to ignore - $34 compared to $40 (Ficcare site) for the large maximas, with the 20% discount on top of that. :boggle:
Head Games don't give international shipping rates, but they surely must be similar to what Ficcare are charging. And we can ask over at LHC if anyone knows how they compare.

Who's in? ;)

But we would need to move fast I think.

I'd be in for one Ficcare, possibly 2 from headgames. I'm hoping that we can ask them to ship all at once if going overseas as shipping is nasty?

Great - starting a separate thread now ...

Rae~

I'm not *quite* ready yet, but at some point soon I'll be making an order from Little Seven (http://littleseven.com/)..... if anyone else is interested in joining me, I believe we get free shipping on two pairs. I've sent an email to check, but even sharing shipping would still save a little. (In case you'd like to know more, here (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=103) is the current Little Seven thread on LHC, and here (http://archive.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=48699) is the old one, in the LHC archives.)

Alternatively, if we were to order the same items through BodyArtForms (http://www.bodyartforms.com/), we might find a good discount code. I have a permanent discount there, but only 10% - we may be able to get better.

Rae~
May 22nd, 2008, 05:32 AM
Just adding info that yes, shipping is free on orders of two pairs or more, with Little Seven.

I really only want one pair, so if I'm ordering on my own, I'm hoping BAF gets stock in soon of the item I want, in which case I'm going to jump on it quickly to get it. If there are others who might be interested, just please let me know.

I'm wondering if there is any interest in an order from tenderheaded (http://www.tenderheaded.com/) in the future? I'm looking at buying a comb from them.

I've given up on a flexi 8 order because of the poor response.

Rae~
December 19th, 2008, 05:56 PM
The plunge in the Aussie dollar has made GOs less appealing, hasn't it?!!

Not that there's anything specific I need, or even want, at the moment... but you never know what might come along.... :D

Liluri or others, are you still interested in ordering from tenderheaded (http://www.tenderheaded.com)at all? I'm currently looking for silk pillowcases and can't find any (in nice colours) anywhere else... :purplex:

I'm interested in Tenderheaded for a comb still, as for pillowcases I've been looking at Dharma Silk (http://www.dharmatrading.com/html/eng/1384272-AA.shtml) as then I can have any colour I want and even with the dye they are much cheaper (I like playing with dyes)

Senzi Limiti is very pretty but too pricey for me atm.

I'm fairly open to suggestion, actually.... I pretty much know what I want, but am also in no real rush. If there's a particular time frame that suits you, please just say so.

Otherwise, maybe we could aim to put the order in, in another couple of weeks - say, 10 October? I have a dentist appointment on the 8th, so I will need some cheering up about then! :D

OK, even though it's a very small order - just Liluri and I, I believe - I have started a new thread here (http://chatter.thebeautybottle.com/showthread.php?p=39640) for the Denman GO, just too keep it all together and not clog up this thread. :)

Can't wait to get these brushes. I need a backup brush for my D41... I was so glad I eventually found it, but was gutted when I thought I'd lost it!
