This seemed like the best place to put this topic.

I got a bit sunburned yesterday, so since then I've been slathering on my Strawberry Chapstick and it's been helping.. some.

Over lunch I went to the grocery store to get some food and found ChapStick All Natural. It claims to be a deep conditioning & hydrating formula, which is what I needed. It felt like the other stuff is a preventative instead of a cure. This new stuff doesn't really have a scent or a taste, but there was a hint of the beeswax and possibly the coconut oil when I first applied it.

Anyway, the longer I sit here and type, the better my lips feel. It's not really wearing off as soon as my other chapstick did, and I like that it's natural and has all kinds of stuff that I already am ok with putting in my hair, so why not on my lips?

Next time I go kayaking I promise to use the Chapstick with the SPF15 or 30. :pissed:

Ingredients:
Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Jojoba Esters, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Beeswax, Natural Flavors, Mangifera Indica (Mango) Seed Butter, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) Extract, Tocopherol

I have about five tubes of this. One in my purse, beside the bed, downstairs, in my desk drawer and in my makeup bag. I love it and the price can't be beat. :lafhard:

I'll have to grab some. I'm leaving on a trip, and I need my lips to not dry out.
Is it the same $.99 price as the other ChapSticks?

I think it is slightly more. It's either $1.29 or $1.49 by me. I love the stuff though. It's the only thing I use on my lips. :flower:

Hmm, good to know. I love the Burts Bees chapstick, and that's the only one that's ever worked for me. Have you tried that? (I'm trying to get a comparison. Sorry for so many questions.)

I thought this thread was going to be a recipe for all natural chapstick! :)

Anyway, does anyone have a recipe for all natural chapstick? The ingredients Beldaran posted look pretty basic, but how would you get them to stick together into lipbalm?

If I was to make my own, I'd melt coconut oil and beeswax together, and work from there. I'd probably add shea butter, and some EOs.

Usually, the ingredients are just melted gently together and poured into the tube container where they harden to form a stick (or balm in a little tin).

I make my own all natural lip balm I use it every day and have been using this formula or over a year and my lips are very soft.

SUNCAT'S NATURAL LIP BALM

3 ½ Teaspoons Bees Wax Pellets
1 ½ Teaspoons Shea Butter
1 Teaspoon Virgin Coconut Oil
2 ½ Teaspoons Coco Butter (as it doesn’t compact)
1 Teaspoon Sweet Almond Oil
1 Teaspoon Jojoba Oil

Melt bees wax and coco butter in a glass measuring cup in the microwave then add the shea butter and stir well and remelt if necessary. Then stir in coconut oil, jojoba and sweet almond oil. Let cool slightly then pour into lip balm tubes.

Not a chap stick, but the Badger Balms (http://www.badgerbalm.com/lipnbody.html) (and all of the Badger products) are on my list of favorites, and they're 100% natural.

"Rub people the right way" is one of their mottoes.

I was addicted to Burt's Bees lip balm, but even though I was constantly putting this on I still had chapped lips. Now I am addicted to Desert Essence Lip Rescue w/Tea Tree Oil. My lips are so smooth now. I had no idea Tea Tree Oil helped chapped lips!

When I run out of this tube I think I will try SunCat's recipe and add some Tea Tree Oil to it!:eureka: Thanks for the recipe SunCat. :flower:

I'm going to have to try that stuff! I'm currently using Burt's Bees lip balm (which I also like on my nose when I'm sick and blowing it all the time) or some homemade stuff a friend's mom gave me for everyday (almond oil, beeswax, cocoa butter, vitamin e, and peppermint oil). For sunscreen lip balm I have been using the un-petroleum lip balm, which works, but the consistency is a bit on the hard side and it doesn't give my lips any shine (which I like).

Niniane, I found this lot on ebay of lip balm tubes. I'd love to try making it myself for gifts someday... I have a book with a bunch of recipes in it. http://cgi.ebay.com/12-HDPE-15-oz-Lip-Balm-Tubes_W0QQitemZ9528867020QQcategoryZ31801QQrdZ1QQc mdZViewItem

I think Moutain Rose Herbs has the tubes and tins for lip balm. I'm sure SunCat could answer this better, though. She is a crafty one, that woman. ;)

I used to use Burt's Bees but now I 'm addicted to Ganache for Lips. They have the best chocolate lip balms.

Not a stick, but a very natural balm against dry and wound lips: put some honey on it. It helps much (and tastes a good deal better than the most of balms and sticks) ;)

I just use straight shea butter, I have it in containers all over the house as well.

I also use it on my face and hair.

For a smoother, creamier product, use about 60-70 percent shea butter and 30-40 percent coconut butter, it comes out nice.

I use a Vitamin E stick I got at Whole Foods. I can't remember what all is in it but I know Vitamin E (duh! ;) ), Vitamin A, Aloe Vera and beeswax. I especially like to sleep wearing it. It stays on all night (or all day), is glossy looking and doesn't feel "cakey".

I was wearing Burts Bees Lipshimmers every day and found that my lips became addicted to the stuff. If I wasn't wearing it my lips were dry and tight. My guess is the peppermint oil was drying for me.

Now my lips are soft when I get up in the morning and I usually just wear a tinted or slightly frosted gloss all day.

I used to be the biggest chapstick freak ever--I couldn't go anywhere without it. I had little tubes of the stuff everwhere so it would never be far from my reach. But then I read somewhere that most store-bought chapsticks contain chemicals that dry out your lips. So if you use it even once your lips eventually get dried out and you have to keep buying the stuff; it's how the manufacturer's guarantee that they make more money.

Now I just use plain old vaseline. I keep a tub of it at home, but you can also buy little tubes to stick in your pocket or purse. My lips are still dry, they've always been that way, but I don't need to apply the vaseline nearly as often as I used to have to apply the chapstick.
