View Full Version : Anyone cleansing right now?

I always feel so much better after I do an internal cleanse. It's been a while, so I'm gearing up to do another one. I remember being astounded the first time I cleansed. My skin cleared up, my hair and nails started growing again, I had leaps and bounds more energy, my hemorroids went away... :purplex: Specifically, I'll be cleansing with psyllium and bentonite as well as a gallbladder flush with olive oil and lemon juice.
Anyone else cleansing?

I am up for a gallbladder cleanse, and want to do a Master Cleanse soon, too. I got rid of my gallstones about a year ago by doing the epsom salt / grapefruit juice-olive oil cleanse, but need to do one again soon.
What is your routine for your psyllium/bentonite cleanse? All I know is the MC, which I didn't get too far into :)
After a few gallbladder cleanses, I was SO amazed at the changes. I could smell things from across the room, and that was after 1 or 2 of them!

I'm doing this cleanse right now: http://www.achilleshealthmart.com/Natures/Ultimate_Cleanse.html
The directions say you can work your way up to 6 of the herbal pills & 6 of the fiber pills 2x a day - that's 24 pills a day. Seems kind of a lot - right now I'm at 5 of each, but think I may have to step it up to 6 soon. We'll see. It seems to be working well, but I do get pretty bad cramps and gas at times.

(I accidentally hit enter before I was done with my post - I clicked edit but it won't let me edie the post. If I click the reply button at the bottom it doesn't let me type in the message box, either. It only works if I use the quick reply now. Just thought I'd bring that up, anyway...)

If anyone has any thoughts/opinions/anything on this product I'm using, please let me know!
Also Steph and Dana, could you explain to me those flushes you're describing? How do you do them, how do they work, are there any sites that explain about them, etc. Thanks :)

Hi there Ivytwine!
I use the 'recipes' from www.CureZone.com. I am not a doctor, I recommend reading the CureZone site for the actual recipe, this is just how I do mine!
My gallbladder flush goes something like this:
Starting day of cleanse, stay away from fatty foods and eat nothing after a light lunch.
5-6 hrs before bedtime, take 3-4 tablespoons of epsom salts dissolved in 1 1/2 cups water. I use a strong-flavor juice, like grape, because this tastes pretty bad. I heat it a bit and just... chug it!
I do the same thing as above 2 hours later. By then you should be going to the bathroom pretty regularily. It gives you frequent diarrea, but that's the point, to cleanse you!
Just before bed (after the bathroom breaks have stopped) mix 3/4 cup fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice with 1/2 to 3/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil (for the lighter taste). Mix it really well so that the oil is combined with the juice. I like the fresh-squeezed juice the best, but commercial will work, but I find it tastes stronger. Anyway, eitehr chug that down, or slowly sip it over 15 minutes to get as much of it down as you can. I recommend doing this slowly, as some people get nautious from it.
Immediately go to bed, a heating pad helps with the stomach gurgling! Your gallbladder will be reactin to all the fats, and will be releasing the bile and pushing the stones out. The epsom salts will have helped open up the bile ducts as well.
In the morning, take another epsom salt mixture and go to the bathroom. I typically skip this epsom salt step, but I'm sure it would better the results.
When done with the bathroom, you should have elimiated a lot of gallstones. CureZone has pictures of what some look like. Just flush as you usually do.
I would not recommend eating for a few hours afterwards. My left and right sides are typically a little sore from workout we gave the pancreas and gallbladder.
The 'Master Cleanse' is like a juice fast, you make home-made lemonade with the addition of cayenne pepper. Drinking that for a few days (typical is 7-14 days, some people like to do 30 days) releases toxins from your body and people have reported a lot of good outcomes. www.TheRawFoodSite.com has some info on it, or just Google search for Master Cleanse or Master Cleanser. Burroughs wrote 'the book' on it.

I do the gallbladder cleanse just like Dana does, but without the epsom salt. Most people say it works best with the salts, though I've not tried them yet.
The psyllium husk and bentonite is a bowel cleanse and is also called a "P&B Shake." The receipe (http://curezone.com/forums/m.asp?f=105&i=979) is also at CureZone.com (I love that place!). I really cannot speak highly enough of it.

Oh, and to add, I've not tried the Ultimate Cleanse, but if you head on over to CureZone and do a search, you're sure to find some info on it. Perhaps someone here knows something about it, as well. :)

I think that the epsom salts would make it a lot more effective - it is supposed to open up the bile ducts so that more stones can come out, and it also acts to clean out your system before flushing.
I've never tried it without the epsom salts, but next time you do one, try it! It tastes horrible, but I mix it with a strong-flavored juice and just chug it down. Holding my nose helps, too!
How does the P&B shake taste?? Does it just help you eliminate? I'm off to read more about it!
Stephanie

Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely try it next time. :)
The P&B Shake actually tastes pretty good. I mix it with orange juice and it takes on the texture of "Grovestand" OJ (lots of pulp). The OJ also helps hide the taste and texture of the clay.
It does help you eliminate, but you'd never believe the stuff that comes out and how amazing you start to feel afterwards. I was totally skeptical until I did it and actually stuck with it (sometimes it takes a little while). I try to do one of these cleanses every season (I think I got that idea from Dulci!). Anyway, please do let me know if you want to do one. I'm needing to do one here pretty soon.

That sounds pretty much like what the Master Cleanse does, except it is more like a Juice Fast.
Are there any restrictions on what to eat / not to eat while doing the P&B thing?
Is it expensive? How long do you do it, or do you keep doing it until _____ ?
Oh, and where can I get the P & B?

Doesnt anyone think that the gallbladder cleanse could be rather dangerous?? I have gallstones myself and actually asked my doctor about this awhile back. And the problem is that if you have a large enough stone, you are aggrevating your gallbladder and forcing the stones out, including the larger stones, that can get stuck. If a stone gets stuck in a bile duct this is quite serious and requires surgery (and also creates enormous amounts of pain!!) I knew a girl in highschool who had a stone stuck in her bile duct (she wasnt cleansing or anything, it just dislodged itself) and she ended up spending a week in the hospital after having her gallbladder removed (she did have other complications related to the length of time the stone was stuck).
If you dont already have gallstones, i think that this cleansing method is a really good thing because i'm sure it can prevent the formation of any. But considering that so many people do have gallstones and dont know it, I dont think i would recommend it to anyone.
Just be careful everyone. I know you will do it regardless of what I say. I just dont want anyone getting sick. :grinhappy:

The thing I like about it is that you can still eat while doing it. You're supposed to take the P&B on an empty stomach, but light food isn't going to throw anything off. I always try to go on a fruit and veggie diet while doing this just because it makes me feel all the better (I don't normally eat enough fruit or veggies). It's not incredibly expensive and you just do it until you see results. Sometimes it takes a week or more, but when you see results, you really see them. ;)
I buy raw psyllium husk and liquid bentonite clay at our local Fred Meyers (Freddies or Krogers anywhere nearby?). If you have a grocer or drugstore with a natural or health section, you'd find these there. :)

FWIW, Kitty, I did my first gallstone flush when I had my first stuck gallstone. It worked beautifully and I had been panicking because the doctors I'd talked to said that I'd need to be admitted for surgery. I found this flush online and gave it a shot with the thought that it probably couldn't get any worse than it already was just by drinking a bit of olive oil and lemon juice and sure enough, the next morning I was pain free and there was a huge, green gallstone in the toilet. I don't have much faith in mainstream doctors opinions on "alternative" healthcare methods as I've only ever seen them poo-poo it (this is just my experience, however), though I do believe that mainstream medicine has its place. I just wish that more doctors were more open to alternative methods.
I really don't want anyone getting sick, either, so unless you're experienced in this, I would seriously recommend talking to a naturopath doctor or even your GP if you find he/she open to alternative methods.
Kitty

Stephanie - You definitely tried the gallbladder cleanse at the right time! You already had one stuck, so you couldnt make it any worse! If I knew my stones were smaller and wouldnt get stuck I would totally try this.
Maybe I'll mention this to my GP as I have a new one since the one who recommended against it. My stones occasionally bother me and I would love to get rid of them without surgery (the last GP wanted me to have it surgically removed but my new one says that if it doesnt bother me too much then i shouldnt bother)
Anyways it is still be bit scary and I think your advice of talking to a naturopath doctor or your GP is great advice.

Kitty,
There is a Gallbladder Cleanse yahoo group, and I joined it while I was in the midst of doing all of mine, and definitely asked a bunch of questions.
One of the most common concerns is exactly yours - getting a stone stuck.
I think out of the hundreds of people, onle one, maybe 2, mentioned that they had stones stuck, but that by re-doing the cleanse, or by drinking more epsom salt/water mixture, the stuck stone came loose.
You might want to search/ask on CureZone.com or find that yahoo group (it's either called Gallstones or Gallbladder) and read the archives or read up on the current discussion.
It's your body, you need to make the right decicion for you :)
Stephanie - Yes, eating is a definite bonus with being able to eat! That's great that you see results after only a week! We have a Krogers nearby, and also some more local ones, like Dierbergs, which does have a 'health food' section. We also have a Nutrition Stop place a few towns over (only a couple of miles, all the towns run together here), which I'm sure would have them.
If I wanted to buy a 1- or 2-week supply, I'd need up to 4 or 5 'servings' a day, which is 1 P capsul and 1 (tsp or tbp?) of the B per serving... right? So I might need an 80-capsule thing of P and a 12oz thing of B?
:boggle: I'm SO bad at math!!

FYI, I get Sonne's raw psyllium husk (not capsules) and Yerba Prima's Great Plains Liquid Bentonite. I always have quite a bit left over after a cleanse, so you should only need to get one container of each. It's been a while since I've read the instructions for the bowel cleanse on CureZone, so this may not be exactly right, but I take a tablespoon of psyllium husk, a tablespoon of liquid bentonite, about 4 ounces of orange juice and top it off (another 4 ounces or so) with water. Then, I immediately drink 32 ounces of water. I do this 3 times a day and limit my food intake probably more than others would. It is absolutely vital that you increase your water intake. No point in doing this cleanse if you're going to wind up in the hospital with a bowel obstruction. EEK!
Definitely read the instructions at CureZone, though. I think they've probably got more insight to offer than I do.

I want to do a cleanse, but now isn't a good time, because I'm nursing my son, who is 9 months old. I'll wean him at 12 months though, and then it is time to flush the nasties out. A friend of mine does the Master Cleanse every 6 months, and I'm considering it, but I'm a bear if I don't eat regularly. I'll check out that website. DH wants to do a cleanse too, and was disappointed with the kit he bought a couple of years ago. One funny thing about it though is he's a pretty gassy man (bad eating habits that he's trying to fix) and it made his gas smell like cherries  (one of the ingredients in the formula was cherry stems).

I am supposed to have 'debris' or 'sludge' in my gallbladder!!!! will the cleanse be helpful in sorting this out?
Also, does the juice have to be strictly grapefruit only or some alternatives are there?
Also, (I have a lot of alsos, it seems) can maple syrup for the master cleanse be replaced with anything else, for example molasses from sugarcane? Maple syrup is not readily available in my part of the world.

I've been thinking of doing a master cleanse for quite a while now. The only thing that's really stopped me is my job. I'm an RA in the dorms at the U of Oregon (yes, I'll be doing it over the summer too), and eating the food is part of the deal. I'm just getting over an awful bout of flu due entirely to stress-depleted immune system. I've heard you should do a galbladder cleanse before and after an MC... anybody know anything about that?

I hope I can answer some of these for you!
YES the gallbladder cleanse will help get your sludge out, too.
've never heard of anyone using anything but grapefruit, but probably something else that's light and strong-flavored would also work.
You can certainly use molasses in the Master Cleanse. The original author recommends it for diabetics and others swap around the two to alter the taste a little bit.
Hope this helps!!

I don't think you "have" to. Some people do the gallbladder one first, and just continue on to the Master Cleanse.
The Master Cleanse, if done long enough, cleans out your gallbladder anyway, so if you're not having immediate problems (attacks, etc) it will eventually happen, if you do a medium to long cleanse (20+ days?). So, donig it in the beginning (before, not during) will help start off with a good gallbladder/liver if you're having problems, but there doesn't seem much point to doing it afterwards, unless you do a short Master Cleanse.

You might still be comfortable with the pb shakes cleanse, since it is a mechanical cleanse, and does not release toxins into the body the way a fast or a liver/gallbladder cleanse does.
This was my first cleanse, which I did while still nursing my third child. After a total of nine years with my body tied up between pregnancies and nursing, it was high time for a cleanse. After he weaned, I went full fledged into a 28 day master cleanse, followed by a liver cleanse.
Now I do a modified cleansing lifestyle, which includes a one day fast once a week, and pb shakes one week each month, and one detox bath a week (opposite to the fasting day) combined with a mostly clean diet of mostly raw foods, with a small cooked meal of legumes and a grain, and a small amount of cooked organic meat once in a while (I am a type O, and have found that as I got older I needed to take a small amount of meat- which sort of goes down like medicine for me, since I have been vegetarian most of my adult life, until pregnancies and nursing put such a strain on my body that I found I needed meats on an occasional basis to keep my moods even.)

Oh. The cheapest place I have found to get bentonite is from camden grey- they sell both internal and external use clay, and I have both. Use the internal for pb shakes ( you have to hydrate it first- put two tbsp into an old peanut butter jar with filtered water and let stand about two days until it is thickenned. then take about a tbsp of this in water with a tbsp of psyllium powder, for the drink, followed by a large glass of plain water. None of this counts in the daily water intake.
external use bentonite in the bath. a jar of bentonite prepared as above in a bath for a good detox soak.
psyllium is found at any health food store. I wouldn't take it in capsules, as it would not begin cleansing until the capsule dissolves. I just shake up the mess in a jar, and drink it down as fast as possible before it gets a chance to thicken. no juice. If you get it down fast enough, you don't notice the taste/texture.

The Mag O7 is about $21 for 90 capsules. The directions say take 3 capsules 2 or 3 times a day. I don't do that. I take it only in the morning when I wake up. Some days I take only one and some days I take 2 or 3. It works very well for me. I guess if you wanted a very thorough cleansing you could take as the directions say. Wow! that bath is something! I never even thought of using so much clay in the bath. I generally use about a quarter cup hydrated in a quart of water and left to sit for a day, which I spread over myself as a body mask and then fill the tub after it has sat for a while. then I soak in the tub for about half an hour adding hot water as needed, before attempting to get the clay off. That seems like enough clay to do the job, and because it is not so unmanageable I can do it more frequently, which I think has its advantages.
I alternate this clay bath with a cayenne pepper/ginger/epsom salt/rosemary eo bath. Makes me sweat like crazy. One or the other once a week.

Bonnie - you are definitely NOT supposed to have stones, etc, in your gallbladder! They are painful! Their cause is debated, but I think the general concensus is that they are caused by poor diet.
The Gallbladder/Liver Cleanse is really just an evening/next-morning cleanse, and you're too busy running to the bathroom to do any exercising! But on the Master Cleanse, people exercise all the time. It is recommended, because the more you sweat and move your body, the better the detoxing. However, you should still listen to your body and never exercise if you're questioning your energy, etc.
If you are worried about losing weight on the Master Cleanse, either add more maple syrup or drink more lemonade so that you do not lose the weight. Don't worry, if done by the book, the Master Cleanse drink ("Lemonade") is supposed to give you all the nutrients your body needs. People do it for 40+ days, and come out of it safe and sound.

There is an online version of it here:

5-6 hrs before bedtime, take 3-4 tablespoons of epsom salts dissolved in 1 1/2 cups water. I use a strong-flavor juice, like grape, because this tastes pretty bad. I heat it a bit and just... chug it!
I do the same thing as above 2 hours later. By then you should be going to the bathroom pretty regularily. It gives you frequent diarrea, but that's the point, to cleanse you!
Hi Dana - I have cut the bulk of your method out but just wanted to clarify this point - is that correct - 3-4 tablespoons of epsom salts ? Only the recommended recipe (Hulda) at curezone says "Mix 4 tbs. in 3 cups water and pour this into a jar. This makes four servings, 3/4 (three fourths) cup each."
I haven't read all the other recipes but just thought you might have missed that part out :)
I do a one day juice fast each month but am thinking about doing the gallbladder cleanse this month, starting the night before my juice day, since it sounds so short to do.
The only thing that worries me is the stones - isn't it painful to pass them?
*edit* just read through cleanse page and you have those portions 2 at night and two next morning which I didn't realise at first!

ya'll are more than welcome. i am very new compared to most of you i am sure at all out alternative healing. i got started in it about 9 years ago when hubby was told we could not have kiddos. well i started to really dabble in alterntive healing.
after 3 pregnancies and 2 children i have way more knowledge now. now i have even more support that i am working at a dance studio. our director is a licenced rake massage therapist and is into alternative health care for over 15 years. between the 2 of us we have really expanded our knowledge.
castor oil interested me after starting OCM. after much reading i have found so much more to learn.
another good detox bath is 2 cups of epsom salt, 1 cap of jojoba for moisture, and whatever other healing eo's you would like to add. i literally scrub (no soap or anything ) while in there and then follow with a lukewarm/cool shower. also during this time i usually do an aspirin/castor oil/honey mask on my face and neck and my hair a deep SMT treatment. soothing music and candle complete the picture. hmmm tonight would be perfect timing since hubby has a late safety meeting!!!

Sounds wonderful, I've never thought to add jojoba during an ES bath! If it were me I would skip the lukewarm shower and wrap up warm in a gown and get under the duvet right away - make the most of the detoxification caused by the epsom salts, it really makes you sweat! I'd have the shower in the morning.

Brunette - I alter the cleanse on the CureZone page a little to fit my body and schedule. I don't seem to have any problem in passing the stones the next morning, so I omit the epsom salts, but I might try them this next time (I'm doing the cleanse tonight/tomorrow morning).
The stones aren't painful to pass (at least not to me). Not to get too gross, but you usually pass larger things on a more regular basis! Depending on the size of your stones, you may not even see them in the bowl (I never see mine - I can't bring myself to look). Your rear does get sore from eliminating so much, it might partially be from the stones you're passing, if they are hard or not rounded.
That sounds like a great idea, doing a juice fast the next day! This is an excellent way to start, since you aren't supposed to eat anything too substantial for most of the day anyway.

You're welcome!
I'm in the middle of doing a Gallbladder cleanse right now (took my first dose of Epsom salts just over an hour ago). I am following Hulda Clark's "recipe", slightly modified (as mentioned above). Fun, fun! Will be taking lots of reading material with me into the bathroom! :P

LOL thanks for the reply! The part I imagine being painful is when any largish ones pass out of the gallbladder or whatever, and travel along any internal plumbing - especially after seeing some of those photographs at curezone! But I am reassured that all the people who have tried it seem to have got on fine with no complications or pain.
I'm glad you think my juice fast the next day is a good idea, each time I do it I feel wonderful (the term that comes to mind when I am feeling that way is usually 'buzzy'!) - I feel tingly from top to toe! I hope to feel even better knowing I've done all I can to reduce any potential problems with my gallbladder.
Wow - keep us up to date on how your current cleanse goes! What are your reading materials of choice? LOL :parp:

The Epsom salts are supposed to loosen/widen the bile ducts so that the stones can easily pass through. I'd had no 'pain', although some stomach upset after drinking the juice and oil. This morning my bottom was already sore, so I'm sure passing any larger stones would be painful coming out during elimiation.
Last night I took in a few Sudoku pages, the Bible (literally - my husband had a laugh at that) and one of his old fantasy/sci-fi books. I finished 3 Sudoku puzzles and skipped reading the Bible, and got to chapter 3 of the fantasy book. :boggle:
I've never tried a juice fast or any other sort of fast. I am slightly hypoglycemic - is it safe to assume that I'd be getting enough sugar from the juices to keep my blood sugar stable? And if not, would it be safe to take a glucose tablet or 3?
My cleanse seemed to be successful, but I don't look in the bowl, so I can't say how many stones I got rid of! My true test is to eat something fattening (3 slices of pizza, etc) and see if my gallbladder is upset later on. My stomach area is a little sore this morning (almost like if you did stomach crunches, but not in the same spot and not as intense), but it gets better throughout the day.

If you experience stomach upset with the oil/juice you could add ginger to the mix and it should calm any nausea.

In my experience, take the bath as hot as you can (not uncomfortable) and soak for a minimum of 20 mins, use a good two or more handfuls of epsom salts, as that is what makes people sweat. All I can suggest is trying it just once see how it goes! I don't usually sweat from a bath but the magnesium sulphate really does this for me.
Best of luck!

I am juice fasting on Sunday, I want to do the gallbladder thing tonight but I am a little bit nervous, I don't want to tell anyone around me what I am doing, except they all know about the one day juice thing. I hope they don't think the juice is making me get 'the runs' - I should be able to report "Oh no, I was unwell last night so it's definitely not the juice"
- is this silly of me? I am just concerned they'll think it a bit drastic if I do something quite so 'freaky' as a gallbladder cleanse and think I am taking this too far. They already think it a bit odd that I juice fast once a month, even though it is only one day and I drink smoothies as well as juices and feel wonderful for it rather than drained and ill.
Anyway I'd really appreciate some feedback guys x :sweatdrop:

I am planning to do another P&B shake cleanse soon, now that Spring is almost here. I'm amazed that several of you are brave enough to do gallbladder flushes, I'm too scared! :boggle:

Ok, any advice for someone not wanting to spend much money? And still wanting to eat? LOL I've been working toward a vegetarian lifestyle and am doing my best to rid my home of processed junk. But I'd like to do more. I've never done a cleanse before. I was going to do MC but I chickened out. No food??? Are you *kidding*??? So, yeah. MC is not for me. Surely there is something out there that will work for me.

Last week I started with one psyllium/bentonite shake at night, this week I may try to add another.
One thing I notice after doing these shakes for a few weeks is that the whites of my eyes get whiter, and my apple-shaped belly goes down. I would actually sink in between my hipbones! :whoohoo:

Hi guys, Ive been wanting to do a cleanse for a while but I am rather unsure of which to use, there are so many.... :boggle:, and i have learned that people trying to sell me stuff are not to be trusted. I am also a bit concerned. I tend to pass out if I have no food in my system, but I think the juice would give me enough sugar to be able to work it, anyone here have any experience? Mostly I am worried about the...:ooh: ummm.....:ooh:... toilet issue. Spending my day in the bathroom is not an option ya know. Just dont have the time.
Whachu guys think?

Hi MotherConfessor I just saw your post
I would suggest going steady and sticking to juices, fruits and smoothies. Most important, don't go hungry/light headed. Avoid any internal cleanses that involve glugging down oils or salts for now if toilet issues are out of the question!
If you enjoy it (maybe just do a day at first) then another time you could read over this thread and get some tips on a different kind of cleanse.
