What music does everyone like? I like just about anything, with the exception of country and gangsta rap. I've been hooked on guitar genius' for the past couple of years. Joe Satriani (http://www.satriani.com/2000/discography/2000-10-05/), Eric Johnson (http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.midwestbeat.com/ezine/September%25202005/images/eric_johnson_web.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.midwestbeat.com/ezine/September%25202005/eric_johnson.htm&h=350&w=230&sz=14&hl=en&sig2=tWek4rm2NoadfJaiUnu-vw&start=15&tbnid=aYbR-2Zr6VA0RM:&tbnh=116&tbnw=76&ei=foSNRLnYOKrgiAGYkcXqCg&prev=/images%3Fq%3Deric%2Bjohnson%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den %26lr%3D%26sa%3DG), Yngwie Malmsteen (http://www.yngwie.org/) (does weird things with classical tunes!) , Steve Vai (http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.bbc.co.uk/tyne/music/2004/06/images/satriani_150.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.bbc.co.uk/tyne/music/2004/06/g3_review.shtml&h=255&w=150&sz=14&hl=en&sig2=xn1nKxU-jF9vGy3-9O32uQ&start=38&tbnid=Eu_ANDADrQhM0M:&tbnh=106&tbnw=62&ei=FYSNRMbEL8-0iAHbwKXzCg&prev=/images%3Fq%3Djoe%2Bsatriani%26start%3D20%26ndsp%3D 20%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26sa%3DN), Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush. Hmmm, I still have an aching neck after this weekend's outdoor metal festival. I saw some oldies like WASP and Twisted Sister and a bunch of Finnish metal bands of all kind. Metal music of some kind is my favourite, bands I really listen a lot to are Rammstein, Metallica and Sepultura, all different metal genres. Sisters of Mercy, Apocalyptica and Oomph! are also on heavy rotation right now, since I'll see them all live within just a few weeks.

When I want a change, I usually listen to older blues and a varitey of classic music, which I don't know anything about, I just log onto a suitable net radio station and let it play.

You mean this week?:lafhard: I change music tastes constantly. At the moment, it's Fats Waller, Evanescence, Tomoko Tane, Justin Durban, Incubus, Helena Paparizou, Shakira and Don McLean for me.

Anyone confused yet?

I like almost everything except for country or rap. Anything that is interesting sounding and requires actual skill to play. The main genres I listen to are hippie jam band stuff and rock/metal. With the metal I mostly stick to the more mainstream stuff like Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie, NIN (see user name) and the like. For the hippie stuff I adore Phish, Dispatch, RatDog, The Allmans, Dave Matthews Band and the supreme rulers of the musical universe, moe.. You have not seen live music until you've seen them. Ben Folds is amazing. Rufus Wainwright is good. Bjork is good. Johnny Cash is my one country exception. Some of the stuff they play on the radio is catchy, but I usually get bored of it quickly cause theres no musical depth to it. I could go on and on...

I like just about everything from opera to rap but lately I have been listening to a lot of jazz, songs from musicals, anime soundtracks and, for some reason, Chinese instrumental music :boggle:

Showtunes! :whoohoo:

Seriously, I listen to a lot of showtunes.

I actually don't explore current music very much, so I'm often out of touch with whatever's on the charts at the moment. My most listened to non-showtune albums are by Simon & Garfunkel, James Taylor, the Indigo Girls and Janis Joplin. I also like a lot of classical and classic jazz (Coltrane, Ellington, etc.) as background music when I'm working.

I just got the Dixie Chicks' new album and an Alison Krausse and Union Station CD for my birthday and have been enjoying both of them this last week.

wow. music is thefuel for my life.
I'm folkie-raised with an appreciation for bluegrass, esp. new grass, who got into metal in high school (and now my son and his friends think I'm some sort of goddess because I can sing along with it in the car),and became a Deadhead.
love guitar masters such as Steve Kimock, Fareed Haque, Jeff Miller of New Monsoon (hippie jam..and DaveM is NOT where it's at), I like tribal rock such as www.kannal.org
Some bands I've been listening to in heavy rotation:
SCI from Stubb's May 1998
Dan Fogelberg (he's quite ill, btw) on vinyl (inherited a player)
CSN&Y
Fareed Haque Group undated show: sounds like Dulcinea's from this spring
Ellis Paul (folk- his 15 minutes of fame are the Me Myself and Irene and Shallow Hal soundtracks)
David Rovics (protest folk)
Joe Jenks (same)
Love Scene Clear
Kan'Nal
Rusted Root (interview next week...after that Air Supply...I'm in the high life now)
Cosy Sheridan (her album Botox Tango is a hoot)
Terri Hendrix and Lloyd Maines (dixie chick daddy who used to play with Joe Ely)
Los Lantzmun (ethnic Jewish music)
Trout Fishing in America
Grateful Dead (mid 80s)

I'll give amost anything a listen except country and rap.

But I'm hooked on musicals, choir music, some classical and then my random Beatles and my rock fix from Lacuna Coil and The Gathering. Heck, sometimes I even listen to a Christian band called Casting Crowns even though I'm very not Christian.

I just loooovee music! :whoohoo: Though if you were to ask me anything about a current hit or band, I would look like " whaaaaaaaat?"

Everything but Mariachi. I love country, rock, and showtunes especially, but most anything goes. I'm listening to AC-DC right now, and the songs before it were the new Dixie Chicks CD.

I have hugely diverse musical taste. I appreciate almost all genres of good music. My collection is very ecclectic. (I have a penchant for Motley Crue though...love that 80's glam!:lafhard: )

Lets start with what I don't like--anything the least bit depressing, anything sung by someone disrespecting the opposite sex (especially men singing about women), anything that gives me a headache, anything rap (OK, so there are 1 or 2 raps from the 90s or so that are actually clever but nobody's ever heard of them).
As far as what I like, I mostly like a little bit of everything, except for the exceptions. I like the completely random fun weirdness that the early 80's had to offer(technopop). I like the calmness of reggae. I like Mozart in the evening before bed. If I'm listening to it for only a minute, I kind of like the sound of Chinese opera. I also like to push buttons in gift shops and listen to the soothing celtic bagpipey music. I love jazz. I also like anything piano-y. One friend of mine (who I've had quite a serious crush on for the past couple years) caused me to appreciate the banjo. Can't bring myself to not shudder at the accordian, though. That's all I can think of for now. It completely depends on my mood.

Musicals and show tunes, how I adore thee :)

I really listen to pretty much everything and it'd be impossible to name all of my favorites :lafhard:

Opera is quite lovely..I love the music from Carmen and on a Broadway note I swear I adore music from every musical out there.

I the love POTO and Jekyll & Hyde music and the poor people who live around me will get to hear me singing it often. I also like the music from Chess and Wicked. Unforunately I've never been able to see any of these lovely shows:pissed: no matter how much I want to.

I'm a fan of the music from disney movies too =D

On the non musical/showtunes/opera note...
Apoptygma Berzerk, The Beatles, Tom Petty, Evanescence, Elvenking, Metallica, Cradle of Filth (oh goodness how did my boyfriend get me to like them?), Within Temptation, Rhapsody, Blind Guardian, VNV Nation, Opeth, Bad Religion, Enya, Sarah McLachlan, Dream Evil, Stratovarius, Theatre of Tragedy, and bunches of people that I can't think of and some I'd be embarrassed to admit too =p

I just love music in general!

LOL. I see that it's Eric Johnson, but from where does he come?

The really scary thing is that the Joe Satriani one sounds so much like my ex boyfriend from over 20 years ago. Very similar style, old boyfriend is dead and this music gave me the chills because it sounded so much like him. Scary.

Most of the music I listen to regularly is stuff from the 80's. Depeche Mode, The Cure, The Smiths, Echo and the Bunnymen (The Killing Moon!). My daughter says that I'm stuck in the 80's. :lafhard: She's also the one who got me into some rave/happy techno. I think it helped that I've been playing DDR for quite awhile because the music is very similar.

One of my favorite bands isn't from the 80's but the 90's - Green Day!

Eric Johnson, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, FRank Marino, have all been around for over 20 years. They've gone from long haired rockers, to crew cut/bald older men and their playing has only gotten better! Frank Marino's band, Mahogany Rush still tours. Johnson, Satriani, and Vai usually do concerts together, can you imagine what it would be like to see them play together? Sorry, I am rambling!:gurn:

Yeah I only know of Frank Marino and there's lots of guys in that vein out there isn't there? I love the old guys the best.

I also love Jeff Beck and Lenny Kravitz, Dominic Triano.

I really really love Leadbelly, T-Bone Burnett, John Coltrane, Paul Butterfield, John Lee Hooker, Howlin' Wolf, Lightnin Hopkins, Muddy Waters, I could go on, love the blues players the best.

I REALLY don't like jazz, It makes me feel aggravated and on edge, blues soothes me and I also love the toe tappin', foot stompin' fiddle, banjo music but I hate country and western although I love country blues.

HMM. I even don't mind rap, but I cannot abide that screaming, tuneless hard core stuff, which I'm not even sure falls into what category.

I also like gospel music and the old timey bluegrass that's akin to that.

Okay, one more, last one I promise, I have been listening to Creed for 4 years straight and even though they are now defunct, they're still one of my favorites.

I listen to classical while at work.

Classic rock & oldies are great to exercise/clean to. Sinatra, Streisand, Sarah Brightman are great for cooking. Russian choral and Christian folk are pleasant for driving and meditating.

And then, of course, there is QUEEN! Good for all purposes.:lafhard:

I'm very eclectic in my musical tastes and I love bits from almost every muscial genre. The only style I really shy away from is rap.

Sarah Vaughn is playing right now. Before that was Damian Rice, Patsy Cline, Nirvana and Tori Amos.

I like classical, jazz, show tunes, music from movies like Lord of the Rings and most of the Star Trek movies, contemporary Christian, plus the old hymns, (don't like country, because that was the only thing my dad would listen to and he controlled the radio in the car when we were travelling), folk music, Native American flute music, someone mentioned the Monkeys earlier, Simon and Garfunkle, a lot of the music from the 60's and 70's, can't remember all the names. Don't like rap mainly because I can't understand what they're saying. :penguin:
