I was talking recently to a co-worker who has had plastic surgery on the bags under her eyes.

She said that her surgeon told her that when he made the incisions under her eyes, he found a build up of a white sticky substance that turned out to be face cream. She had used her ordinary moisture cream around her eyes for years and it had been too heavy for the area and had built up under the skin. Yuk.

I don't mean to doubt her...and I certainly can't see why she'd make it up, but I wonder if this is possible? Has anyone else ever heard of something similar happening?

I've heard something like that basically that using too much eye cream causes the skin tissue to sag and puff up but I didn't think it went any further than that

Did he then try to sell her *his* eye cream? lol

Eh, that's really hard to believe. I can't see how the cream could be broken down and absorbed through the skin, and then reassemble itself underneath the skin. I'm pretty sure that isn't possible.

I have heard about this before but I don't know what to think of it. Could it be one of those urban myths?

Oh yeah I mean... I also doubt it's true (maybe he made it up or something? I dunno to make himself seem like "OMG YOU NEEDED THIS SURGERY!" or something. Anything to make a woman believe she's not good enough and needs surgery to be beautiful I guess). Either way... the idea is gross.

I have to agree ... I don't see how it could be true.

Sounds totally bogus. Unless he was referring to milia, but that wouldn't be under the deepest layer of the skin, just under the surface. Milia is little whitehead looking things that are basically clogged pores in that delicate eye area, and that is caused by heavy creams and buildup.

No possible way that it could soak down underneath the skin though. Perhaps your friend misunderstood, or is explaining it improperly?

I think the scientific points you guys have made make a lot of sense. I was skeptical to begin with....but I think your right, it just isn't feasible.

My friend remains adamant, but hey....if she wants to believe she had yukky white goo collecting under her eyes, who am I to stop her!
